Report: Syrian Leader al-Assad Flees Damascus

Syrian President Bashar al-Assad has fled Syria's capital of Damascus for his family's coastal stronghold in Latakia, according to news sources.

Opposition sources and a Western diplomat told London's Telegraph that the strongman was in thel city of Latakia, and was directing a response to yesterday's bombing of a cabinet meeting.

"Our information is that [Assad] is at his palace in Latakia and that he may have been there for days," a senior opposition figure, who declined to be named, told Reuters. The palace, which Assad has used before to conduct official business, is located in hills near the city, Syria's main Mediterranean port.

Syrian television, however, reported that Assad attended the swearing-in of his new defense minister Thursday. …

If he is on the run then the chances of him using chemical weapons goes down significantly. Reason being if he used them and then tried to flee then there’s no country on the planet that would take him in.

True, but then you have to wonder if he is about to fulfill Exekiel's prophecy by nuking Damascas. Something has to trigger Damascas being destroyed, this could be it.

There really is no good outcome at this point. On the one hand, we’ve got a vicious, murdering tyrant, and on the other, a vicious, murdering Islamist mob.

Good thing that the Israel held on to the Golan. They’ll have need of the high ground again sometime soon it seems.
