Here’s a good list

Going all the way back to 1913.

And if it is a good movie? Does that make me an infantile liar? Or maybe a liberal? Possibly a racist?

So you saw the movie?

Don't worry, he won't. Mainly because in his little fantasy world this kind of violence only has existed in the past 15-20 years and "gore porn" has only sprung up in the past couple of years and The Dark Knight Rises is no different to him than The Human Centipede or Saw 1,2,3,4,5,6.
People like him chose to selectively know/remember things....like for instance that the "Gore Porn" movie The Texas Chainsaw Massacre was released far and wide nearly 40 years ago in 1974.
I suspect that he/she agreed with the leftist MSM and blamed the Tea Party for causing the Gabrielle Giffords shooting.
People like that are the flipside to the liberalism that conservatives have to deal with. There are Goebbels on the right just as there are on the left.
For people like that it's much easier to blame make believe than it is to blame the human nature. They don't want to believe that evil will find a way.
Like I said before, Saudi Arabia and Iran ban things like western Rock N Roll, Video Games, and Movies yet somehow they aren't perfect societies of peace and non-violence.

To maintain that the trashy popular culture such as, yes, comic books and video games for hours and hours daily, as well as death metal and rap "music" have no influence whatsoever on young minds is to keep one's head buried firmly in sand, and to, one suspects, excuse one's own use and admiration of such low culture products.

"Cancelling screenings could backfire in my opinion. It would give a warped sense of power to the shooter of last night and might encourage other copycats to do something similar when the movie reopens so they too can shut the movie down."

Absolutely agree. There are many hostile eyes who will watch how we respond to this incident and adapt their plans accordingly.

Ernest Wagner and Andrew Kehoe must have been directly influenced by the Insane Clown Posse and The Dark Knight Rises. That is the only logical explanation.

Yeah, I suppose there was no real violence in the world in, say the 1910s-1950s. Then movies got BAD. Those Brit rockers came over here with their slightly-longer-than-everyone-else’s-hair haircuts and suits and ties, singing songs about holding girls’ hands...curse film and the British Invasion for our modern woes!

I stand corrected; wrong hair color. Therefore, according to you, no possible linkage to Holmes identifying with the Joker or any of the controversaries regarding the nature of this latest Batman script. No possible linkage to OWS either?

But you apparently ignored the point of my post about this particular movie and this particular massacre.

I’m sure it’s a cinematic masterpiece, like the above mentioned It’s a Wonderful Life, like Citizen Kane, like Psycho, oh yes, no doubt.

Dumb idea to blame the movie for a nut case.

Hell, we got a bounty of dumb ideas here on FR today! Let's just go with it!

A good list. Just look at these dozens and dozens of spree killings in the US prior to the 1960s!

The simple, simple point I'm trying to make is that while I don't like nor endorse music like Insane Clown posse nor movies like The Human Centipede or Saw 1,2,3,4,5,6 they are in a class all their own that has existed for 40 years.

You placing movies like The Dark Knight Rises into that same class is idiotic.

Oddly enough, throughout the whole 3 movies, and explicitly in the The Dark Knight Rises, Batman adamantly abhors the use of guns and orders Catwoman to not use them.

But since I'm trying to make a point to a plain concrete wall, then aside from the themes of Ultimate Redemption, Good Vs. Evil, with Good triumphing over Evil sure it's your right to believe that The Dark Knight movies are equal to movies like The Human Centipede or Saw 1,2,3,4,5,6.

It’s not like the Joker’s hair changes. The character has been around since 1940, and has had green hair almost all that time, except the handful of times somebody made it purple. And the Joker isn’t in this movie, so it’s hard to see how Joker inspiration ties into “controversies” in this script. Probably no linkage to OWS either. Nuts are nuts.

You didn’t have a point. That’s what I’m pointing out. Nutty people are nutty people. Look at that link on the history of spree killing I posted. Nutty people doing their nutty things long before big movies and Batman. Even if this movie did inspire his methods it didn’t make him nuts. He got insane all by himself.

“Are you saying Holmes would have done this at the midnight screening of any movie at all? Are you saying that the indication (dyed his hair red; did he have the Joker’s smile painted?) that Holmes identified with the Joker had nothing to do with this massacre?”

I’m saying you can’t blame the movie for this. This is all on Holmes. It could have been Snow White and someone could have identified with the evil queen and went on a poison apple spree. This is all Holmes! If you can’t see that then you are very myopic. I guess you think we should we should censor this movie? You sound like the gun grabbers. Maybe we should outlaw knives because they have been used to kill people. NO! It’s all on the killer. He drove himself to do this, not the movie!

100% agree. We are evidently quite a small group that sees it that way. Never expected the end times to develop in any other fashion.

In your opinion, do pro-life websites & similar literature cause people to go out & kill abortion doctors? And, if so, what should be done about such literature?

You are trying to make a distinction without a difference. First of all it was you not me who listed the worst of the worst low budget slasher movies. Second, it’s like you’re telling me that rapper named Mo Fo is a real artist and not like those other cheap violent rappers Slasher and Killah (names made up on the spot.) As I said, distinction without a difference. Low, trashy entertainment, and more, to the Hollywood Communists who produce it, it’s a product, an entertainment vehicle, money maker, nothing more, certainly not art of any kind to anyone involved like the films of past years.
