Not only is a presidential election actually 50 individual state elections, many voting machines are local/county and never seen or interacted with by the feds, and sometimes not even by states.

Scytl currently has contracts with 900 U.S. jurisdictions to count votes in 14 States Posted on April 14, 2012.
I’m sure I could find more confirmation, but Snopes is definitely not a good choice for me.
