Radical writer Alexander Cockburn, a longtime columnist for The Nation and editor of the political newsletter CounterPunch, died Friday in Germany at age 71.
He had been receiving treatment for two years for cancer, his fellow editor at CounterPunch, Jeffrey St. Clair, wrote on the publication's website.
Cockburn, who lived in recent years in Petrolia, Calif., was known for an acidic pen that spared few on either the left or right for policies that he felt were hypocritical or corrupt.

Speaking of that, the bottom of the page has a link to a story that Al Franken's comedy partner on SNL, Al, Davis, has died.
Hope Cockburn doesn’t forget his pitchfork and red Dr. Denton’s,,,,,,,,where he’s going he’s bound to need ‘em.
A dead Commie. Sniff, sniff...
He lived 71 years longer than he deserved. Aside from Joseph Stalin, I don’t know who would mourn his death.
I'm still waiting for Willis Carto (yimach shemo vezikhro!) to bite the big one.
Cockburn was, without a doubt, a liberal. But he was not a statist (and not a communist). He was one of a rare breed of honest liberals who spoke the truth about many issues without considering what people would think of him. Here's a recent sample: http://www.counterpunch.org/2012/05/18/brave-new-world-brave-new-majority/
Another British America hating Commie attacking us in our country while enjoying the fruits of its liberties and fame he wouldn’t get in his own country.
I remember some conservatives tolerated him because he was a Clinton hater.
And what is interesting about Cockburn was that he was the one who got the ball rolling on the so-called Clinton shenanigans down in Arkansas, not the vast right-wing conspiracy that Hillary claimed existed when Bubba was getting ### in the Oval Office.
Where he’s going, Cockburn will live up to his name.
One less commie = Happy Days. Good riddance and don’t let the fire engulfed gates of hell hit you on the way IN.
Having developed some sense around 1974, I cannot recall reading a word from him since.
every time one of these demonrats dies
i am a little happier
the more tragic the better.
Too bad about Tom Davis. I don’t think he was a conservative, but he had some choice words about former partner Al Franken in the book “Al Franken is a buck toothed moron”.
I used to laugh at his name until I found out it’s pronounced Co-burn. Still spelled funny though.
I agree. Given what the left has done to our civilization, I cannot lament the passing of any of its members.
Incidentally, I actually have a relative who has written for Cockburn’s pathetic site Counterpunch. This relative, who I have no contact with anymore, is so far left that he doesn’t even like Obama.
Anyway, the good news is that Counterpunch gets precious little traffic. My relative is basically talking to himself.
