These types of grants often pay for more than just books and tuition; they often include stipends for housing and living expenses and are periodically paid out in lump sums. It wasn’t as if he was concerned about paying back his unused grant money after he dropped out of the program just last month. Along with a few credit cards which credit card companies love to offer to college students, along with some careful budgeting and planning, he could have easily had enough money to purchase what he did over the last three months or so.
