I had some business with the developer of that complex back in the 90’s when it was still on the drawing board. I looked at the proposed location and said “what, are you NUTS???’

They were from out of state and had no idea how bad that area was. But they went ahead and built an upscale mall, ironically on the very site of the great Homestead Strike of 1892.

Officials keep trying to revitalize bad neighborhoods with new housing, fancy shopping malls and what not. Some work, but most don't. The Waterfront still looks good, but cross the railroad tracks to what was the main shopping district of Homestead, and you can see the decay. If anything, the demise of the community has accelerated.

People in these towns say they welcome the new developments, but they do nothing to keep them safe and viable. Then when the developments turn into karp, they whine and complain.
