Police in Milford said a homeowner shot an intruder in the chest after a struggle Saturday night.
Shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday, the Milford Police Department was alerted of a home invasion on Point Lookout.
According to police, the 67-year-old resident realized there may have been an intruder inside the home after hearing a noise outside his home. While he was investigating, he said he found a screen to the home was forced open, and at that point the homeowner was confronted by the burglar.
A struggle ensued and the homeowner retreated to the second floor and armed himself with a gun.
He then returned to the first floor of the home and found the intruder attempting to steal his TV.
The homeowner pleaded with the man to leave, and again the suspect began to physically assault the homeowner.
At that point, police said, the homeowner shot the home invader in the chest.
The intruder, who has been identified as Benjamin Prue, 25, was brought to Yale-New Haven Hospital where he remains in critical condition.

I love a happy ending!
I wonder if Bennie’s insurance is current: Or will the invisible no cost insurance genie pay for his treatment.
You know, we use the word “predator” a bit too liberally these days. More often than not most of the the “wolves” we are faced with anymore aren’t predators at all, they’re scavengers. They won’t mess with anything that’ll fight back. There are some true predatory animals out there, and they truly hunt, but for the most part I think that most of these idiots are looking for the path of least resistance. They don’t want to get dirty. “We’ll rob the old lady”, “Let’s abduct a kid”. A defensless target is an easy target, right? The solution for that is simple, refuse to be food. For the other, the true predator, the solution isn’t so simple. They are hunters. They stalk, they lay in wait. They kill. Those are the ones that will let you know that you’ve got a fight on your hands. Not fighting to get away, but fighting to get to you. All the posturing in the world won’t change their mind. You have to understand going into it that there will only be one left standing. Who will it be? You, or them? Maybe it is as simple as it seems...Victory, or nothing.
Why would you investigate a noise in your home overnight without taking your gun with you??? Just sayin. I’m glad he was able to get back to his gun before something bad happened
And the perp was naked also. There seems to be a lot of that going on recently. The article above didn’t mention that tid-bit which I found interesting. Is the media now going to begin to omit the fact of nakedness from their coverage just as they have been omitting any mention of the race of a perp or suspect.

He DID take a gun with him but that 1st gun jammed. He then went back upstairs to get a 2nd gun and that’s the one he shot the home invader with.
Good for him for having a backup then. I was wondering from reading the excerpt......
I’m afraid to ask what gun jammed !! I expect to find it was another Keltic. Keltic’s may work as a deterrent when they are only brandished, but I wouldn’t want to trust my life with one.
No he confronted the criminal unarmed, struggled, broke free, went upstairs and got a gun, confronted criminal, gun jammed, went back upstairs to get second gun, shot criminal.
It may or may not end happily.
I don’t know CN law but in NC the law is very complex on this matter.
You can shoot a person who is in the process of breaking in because it is assumed that he is breaking in to do you serious harm.
However, in NC, once the BG gains entrance you have to wait to see what his intentions are.
In NC, going upstairs to get a gun and coming back is very bad style because a mean prosecutor, and we do have them here, will contend that you were no longer in danger and should wait for the cops.
So it will be interesting to see what happens under their laws.
Not critical enough.
In Connecticut, we have no right to defend ourselves. Look for the homeowner to be arrested.
What's a Keltic?
Oops. Kel-tec
Had the 32 and the 380 both misfire, many a time.
So says the media. What was the intruder doing, taking a bath?
So he got real lucky. Twice. Never investigate a potential problem in your house while leaving your firearm upstairs! A gun does no good unless it is with you
Agreed, good advice.
