Most U.S. gun owners - even current and former members of the National Rifle Association - support some firearms ownership restrictions including criminal background checks for prospective gun buyers, according to a poll commissioned by an anti-gun lobbying group.
The survey, conducted by Republican pollster Frank Luntz for the group Mayors Against Illegal Guns, was carried out in May but was released on Tuesday in the aftermath of the Colorado movie theater shooting that killed 12 people last week.

Luntz said he polled 945 gun owners nationwide - half of whom were gun owners who were current or former members of the NRA, a gun rights group that takes a hard line against most firearms control measures, and half of whom were not affiliated with the NRA.
The survey had a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points. The survey did not provide results looking only at the responses by current NRA members.
Seventy-four percent of the current and former NRA members and 87 percent of the other gun owners supported criminal background checks of anyone purchasing a gun, according to the poll.
Seventy-nine percent of current and former NRA members and 80 percent of the other gun owners supported requiring gun retailers to perform background checks on all employees to ensure they are not felons, the poll found.
Poll respondents also favored eligibility requirements for obtaining concealed weapon permits, with 63 percent of current and former NRA members and 74 percent of the other gun owners agreeing that applicants must be at least 21 years old.

“Mayors Against Illegal Mayors”

Here is the pdf on the poll and the results.
The article really doesn’t fit the poll results.

The poll isn’t new either....2009
I guess you could say: Crazy doesn’t kill people, crazy with AR-15s kill people. When the smoke clears we’ll likely find existing laws that are supposed to protect us, failed to be enforced. I wonder though, if the Aurora shooter’s shrink knew something, do we leave it up to the gun buyer to volunteer that info on all of the forms?
I fully support some firearms ownership restrictions.
For example, liberal Democrats should not be permitted to have guns. It’s just not safe.
Also, everyone who is in favor of banning gun ownership should be required to post a sign in their yard that says, “This is a gun free home.” That way criminals will know which houses are safe to invade.
No...the Shotgun killed most folks...not the AR
Push Poll.
The questions regarding restrictions are already law.
I favor restrictions- on businesses making policy that prohibits legal concealed carry on their premises.
If the shooter was not on the university health insurance and he was not on his parents and he was not employed then either a state or federal healthcare program failed him. Can we sue the government for not protecting us?
A self-serving poll by gun-hating mayors apparently attempting to show that gun owners, “even NRA members”—as hard as it is to believe: We actually want *more* restrictions/infringements on our 2nd Amendment rights!
Unfortunately for the poll purchasers, it also has the unintended result of demonstrating the reasonableness of Americans who own guns, and as Krauthammer pointed out recently, the `gun lobby’ happens to be the American people.
But when has the left ever lied to America before?
Oh yeah: Michael Bellesiles, `Arming America: The Origins of the National Gun Culture’; `I, Rigoberta Menchu’; Dan Rather; Doris Goodwin; Jimmy Carter/Bill Clinton/Al Gore/John Kerry; Barack Obama (AKA Barry Soetero); Eric Holder; Janet Napolitano; Jay Carney; the MSM; the Democratic party, particularly Nancy Pelosi, Barney Frank and Harry Reid; 99 out of 100 professors at your kid’s university; news magazines/your hometown newspaper/popular literature; almost every show on television and all situation comedies; Hollywood; Google, etc. etc. etc.
whew
Bulshe! Since The establishment repub part is fully onboard Obama’s agenda, including the:UN Small Arms Gun Ban Treaty, they need a statistical reason,to publicly support the Treaty, which the repubs also want. This is a ‘Push Poll’, meant to garner support for the upcoming Treaty,by tying to ‘Push’ public opinion in That direction. While All of the “Hard” evidence, suggests just the opposite of this poll. Firearms sales have sky rocketed in Colorado in particular since this massacre and the rest of the Country in general since Aurora.
that’s B/S what idiot would want more restrictions and rules put onto them, hell even the obama cult might not go that far, saying that look at PA and how the western part was insulted but they still voted for the socialist.
He and others could use this gun control to mention fast and furious, and how about reining in the Govt letting guns go to Mexico and drug lords.
YOU CAN'T TOUCH DAT!
Privacy doncha know! If the puke got released from the nut house the day before, that info is OFF LIMITS. So say the black robed idiots.
Also, I read where the AR jammed early on. The lowly, centuries old shotgun, King of Death, did most of the damage. Which makes sense.
And I think a nut with a good shotgun and lotsa buck shot is even scarier than a nut with an AR!
Just shoot at the crowd, you KNOW you're gonna hit people! They have to quit fixating on the weapons and start fixating on all these kids with really whacked out minds.
Absolutely. Back when I was dumb enough to waste my time looking at FOX that putz would be on Hannity.
It is obvious that this wimp would cry if he was asked to hold even a toy gun. He's a liberal trying his best to come across as objective.
