London's Olympics got off to an embarrassing start when North Korea's women footballers refused to play after a mix-up over their national flag, in one of a series of blunders.

...The incident -- involving two countries still officially at war -- ensured a nightmare debut for the 19-day Games, where the hosts' capabilities are on show as thousands of athletes compete for 302 gold medals until August 12.

“if only Kazakstan can win a gold so they can play Borats theme for the winner.”

That’s too funny!

These Olympics seem to be getting a lot more hype on TV than usual; guess they’ll try to mask Obama’s failures with bread & circuses (the Olympics haven’t meant sh!t since the Cold War ended).

Yeah; somebody showed me a YouTube clip of some Australian girl warming up before some hurdles (set to music). She didn’t qualify, but supposedly was already getting more endorsements than a lot of other athletes. She looked good, and I’d rather see her on my cereal box than some she-man with fifteen gold medals...

I don’t know if this will work; people scrouging to make ends meet hardly have an interest in this entertainment. I was (pleasantly) surprised by how few co-workers have expressed any interest in the Olympics for years now.

"series of blunders."

'You' haven't seen anything yet...When blighty gets warmed up they will come in their own sweet time.
Boris Johnson 1, North Korea 0.
Who knows how it will go, let's give it a chance we may all be pleasantly surprised.[cough]

LOL...some of those 'she-males' can be real appetite-suppresants...

They should play the song from that old metal band Quiet Riot, Mental Health, for the the North Koreans theme song.

” I’m insane got no brains, Teacher says I’m one big pain..........

Well I’m remonstrated Outdated, I really want to be over-rated”

Perhaps the organizers want to re-enact the satirical BBC miniseries Twenty Twelve about the organization of the games... some parts of that have already come true.

Of course the rules still apply...that comment is useless without pictures. I didn't see the clip, but a quick search finds the lovely and extremely not guilty Michelle Janneke...

Apologies for hijacking the thread for a moment of sincere fan appreciation. :)

I remember watching a Women’s World Cup game between 2 Scandinavian countries (Denmark & Sweden, I believe); it was like watching 2 teams of Barbie dolls. No thick legs or butch haircuts; just feminine women playing soccer. Contrast that with the US butch on the cover of the WSJ today...

I was hoping they’d go to overtime, even a shootout, but no such luck.

If you watch the whole clip she easily beats everyone in the group through the hurdles; I was surprised she didn’t qualify. Oh well, there is always 2016...

Cycling produced the biggest shock with Kazakhstan’s Alexandre Vinokourov winning gold in the road race.

Neat thing is Alexandre Vinokourov will go back to Kazakhstan and be a national hero.
