Last week, reports emerged that Chick-fil-A president Dan Cathy had condemned gay marriage. It's no secret that the company is run by devout Christians, but this still caused an uproar. Boston's mayor threatened to deny the company business permits, celebrities condemned the company, and the Muppets announced fast food chain wouldn't be able to license any new toys for their kids meals.
One small problem: The president of Chick-fil-A never actually said anything condemning gay marriage. Here's how CNN reported the story: ---
(CNN)The fact that Chick-fil-A is a company that espouses Christian values is no secret. The fact that its 1,600 fast-food chicken restaurants across the country are closed on Sundays has long been testament to that.
But the comments of company President Dan Cathy about gay marriage to Baptist Press on Monday have ignited a social media wildfire.
"Guilty as charged,", Cathy said when asked about his company's support of the traditional family unit as opposed to gay marriage.
"We are very much supportive of the family the biblical definition of the family unit. We are a family-owned business, a family-led business, and we are married to our first wives. We give God thanks for that," Cathy is quoted as saying. ---
But Terry Mattingly at the website GetReligion (where I am an occasional contributor) notes that if you look at the original context of the interview, Cathy wasn't asked specifically asked about gay marriage nor did he say anything about it. Here's the actual interview CNN and others cited from the Biblical Recorder and that was carried by the Baptist Press:

The Bible condemns homosexuality. What is the big deal? Why are people afraid to say what the Bible says? My bet is this will boost CFA’s business - a lot. I’ll be there August 1.
What’s wrong with criticizing Sodomites? This is how the liberal establishment seizes the argument!
I feel stupid for not expecting this... When it comes to controversial subjects, the media always seems to get it wrong, and wrong in a left-wing way.
I guess Chicago doesn’t tolerate the intolerant!?
I don’t necessarily think there is anything wrong with criticizing homosexuality; the point of this article is that no matter how civil a right-leaning individual is, the MSM will crucify him over something he didn’t technically say.
Yes, saying your support biblical family means you don’t support homosexual ‘marriage.’ But the media twisted this from ‘Cathy supports traditional family’ to ‘Chick-fil-A wants to kill all the gay people and Cathy hates gayness and omg they are the Gay KKK of Chicken!!!!!!’
I applaud Cathy for taking a stand, but I find it interesting that he never actually said “gay marriage.”
Yes, they twisted his words so that they could reignite the culture wars. Could not leave well enough alone, even when the man swore his company does not discriminate and would treat all customers equally regardless of any orientation.
They needed someone to crucify, so the rainbow agenda could get in the spotlight once again in an election year.
The goal of the anti-Christian media is to make Christians look like hate-filled bigots.
All Christian and conservative media should headline this story: “ Anti-Christian CNN Twists Cathy’s Witness”
I guess Chicago doesnt tolerate the intolerant!?
I think the back-peddling is beginning in the face of what will probably be record sales day on the ‘counter-protest’ chick-fil-a day wednesday, signifying yet again that people are not going to boycott a company to promote a gay agenda
“I applaud Cathy for taking a stand, but I find it interesting that he never actually said gay marriage.”
And he left it out because he is smart and decent and merely wanted to run his business and maintain his independence. But the rainbow agenda’s mantra is “you are either with us or against us”.
It is a pipe dream to believe that a significant portion of the black vote can be persuaded to cross the aisle. However, ads like this are immensely important as relates to turnout. Turnout is Obama’s problem with this particular constituency. The ad is powerful because it lets those who may be leaning away from Obama know they have lots of company.
This is anecdotal, I admit, but the blacks I know are a bit disillusioned with Obama, some even embarrassed for him. If they stay home this time, Obama loses.
I am seriously considering a counter protest by holding signs that read something like:
“Thought crime should be a capital offense”
“ I am so tolerant that I am intolerant of differntly thinking people”
“NO MOR FOT KRIME AT CHIK FIL A”
“The opinion of a private indiviidual means more that the company policy”
And hang out by the loons and see if they realize I am mocking them...
Leftists love witch hunts.
I heard something about this, there is no Chick-fil-a restaurant where I live, but if there is a counter-protest I will drive the 75 miles round trip to help support them. Is it going to happen and if so, when??
I bet this backfires on Rahm. More people are against gay marriage than for it. Rahm’s strong arm tactics and ascribring his gay values to all chicagoans is going to turn off a bunch of voters.
Oh that’s right, it’s chicago, votes don’t count.
Wednesday August 1st is buy Chick Fil A day.
