Evangelist Bill Graham says abortion has taken America’s morality downhill — so frat that the nation is on par with cities in the Old testament that God destroyed because of their lack of sexual morality.
Graham’s comments com in the form of a new open letter titled “My Heart Aches for America” that addresses concerns about moral issues. In a new prayer letter Billy Graham writes: “My heart aches for America and its deceived people. The wonderful news is that our Lord is a God of mercy, and He responds to repentance.”
The noted Christian writes:
Some years ago, my wife, Ruth, was reading the draft of a book I was writing. When she finished a section describing the terrible downward spiral of our nation’s moral standards and the idolatry of worshiping false gods such as technology and sex, she startled me by exclaiming, “If God doesn’t punish America, He’ll have to apologize to Sodom and Gomorrah.”
She was probably thinking of a passage in Ezekiel where God tells why He brought those cities to ruin. “Now this was the sin of … Sodom: She and her daughters were arrogant, overfed and unconcerned; they did not help the poor and needy. They were haughty and did detestable things before me. Therefore I did away with them as you have seen” (Ezekiel 16:49–50, NIV).
I wonder what Ruth would think of America if she were alive today. In the years since she made that remark, millions of babies have been aborted and our nation seems largely unconcerned. Self-centered indulgence, pride, and a lack of shame over sin are now emblems of the American lifestyle.
Yet the farther we get from God, the more the world spirals out of control.
My heart aches for America and its deceived people. The wonderful news is that our Lord is a God of mercy, and He responds to repentance. In Jonah’s day, Nineveh was the lone world superpower—wealthy, unconcerned, and self-centered. When the Prophet Jonah finally traveled to Nineveh and proclaimed God’s warning, people heard and repented.
I believe the same thing can happen once again, this time in our nation. It’s something I long for, and my son Franklin recently shared a vision for perhaps the greatest challenge in the history of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association—to launch an outreach called My Hope with Billy Graham that would bring the Gospel into neighborhoods and homes in every corner of America next year.
I saw Billy on TV, years ago, explaining that his position on abortion came from his father-in-law, who was a surgeon and Presbyterian missionary in China.
His father-in-law believed in “exceptions.”

Most of us in the USA knew the answers then, and many of us know the answers today, but few of us are willing to confess it, humble ourselves, and take heed to God’s word.
“If My people, which are called by My name, humble themselves, and pray, and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.” (2 Chronicles 7:14)
“Wherewithal[how] shall a young man[old ones too]cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to Thy word. With my whole heart have I sought Thee: O let me not wander from Thy commandments. Thy word have I hid in My heart that I might not sin against Thee.” (Psalm 119:9-11)

My heart and soul belongs to Heaven and I agree with what you say. I pray over this many times every day. GOD will give us the strength and tools but it is up to us to fight these evil demons. I may not live long enough to see my America restored to what she was when I was a child. It will take many decades of warfare before we succeed... I say it now and Mark Levin said the same exact thing last night.

The spiritual condition of man is at the root of the abortion issue. Until man’s spiritual condition is changed by the power of Jesus Christ, we will not find a full solution to this problem. It is sin that produces the problem of most unwanted pregnancies, as well as all the other disorders which plague the human race.
It is also sin that produces the misbelief that women have a “right” to take the lives of unborn babies. The apostle Paul writes, “The acts of the sinful nature are obvious: sexual immorality, impurity and debauchery; idolatry and witchcraft; hatred, discord, jealousy, fits of rage, selfish ambition, dissensions, factions and envy; drunkenness, orgies, and the like” (Galatians 5:19-21a).
Life is sacred, and we must seek to protect all human life: the unborn, the child, the adult, and the aged. Several Bible passages tell of the sacredness of life and speak to the subject of abortion.
Since the Supreme Court removed restrictions on abortion in 1973 abortions have risen to an incredible figure of over 1.2 million each year in the United States.
