MILLER: The assault on weapons
The Washington Times ^ | 24 July, 20112 | Emily Miller

Gun grabbers wasted no time exploiting Friday’s shooting in Aurora, Colo., by calling for more restrictive firearm laws. Their liberal agenda is off target because, with U.S. gun ownership at its highest level ever, the public sees crime is way down. This blows a hole in the left’s argument, but it doesn’t stop it.

Despite the House being strongly pro-gun and the Senate marginally so, some Democratic senators want to seize the opportunity to peddle pet legislation. On Tuesday, Sen. Frank R. Lautenberg of New Jersey kicked off an effort to reinstate the expired ban on high-capacity magazines. His bill would prohibit the manufacture and sale of ammunition magazines that can hold more than 10 rounds — modern handguns generally hold between 12 and 17. It’s not clear what exactly Mr. Lautenberg would accomplish, unless the government also recalls the 300 million firearms already owned by Americans.

New York City Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg went off the deep end on Monday when he told CNN that police officers across the country should “stand up collectively and say, ‘We’re going to go on strike’” until states pass more gun laws, such as bans on certain kinds of bullets. The billionaire businessman also demanded that presidential candidates soften their stance on gun rights.

President Obama is well aware of the political consequences of admitting his true feelings on guns in an election year. To avoid angering his liberal base, Mr. Obama let his spokesman respond on Sunday, off-camera on Air Force One on the way to Aurora. “The president is focused on doing the things that we can do that protect Second Amendment rights, which he thinks is important, but also to make it harder for individuals who should not, under existing law, have weapons to obtain them,” said White House Press

If we refuse to comply, will we be criminals too?

That seems to be the clear dichotomy in Obama's mind: soldier, or criminal. And we see how that works out for the "criminals" in gun-controlled nations.

An AK-47 bullet through the head.

It happened in England, Australia, and Canada.

It can happen here.

Maybe just not yet, but the demonRATs are just waiting for the opportunity.

‘high-capacity magazines’

Would be ever so good if we’d stop using the language of the gun banners. This moniker came into being as part of the ‘no gun for you’ crowd tried to curtail our RIGHTS. Instead it should be liberal low caps or some such. As long as you allow ourselves to be sucked into their defns we’re going to lose. Lets start framing the conversation in our terms. Even better lets start driving the conversation!

More effort needs to be made to get the truth about gun freedom to Europe and Australia, especially. To let their people know how much good it has done in America.

Right now, England and Australia are being increasingly tormented by crime. England’s prisons are overwhelmed and they have no money to build more. So their judges are letting criminals go, and their government is telling the police not to arrest others. While at the same time punishing anyone who defends themselves against criminals.

To stay proficient with your weapons, it is not unusual to fire 100 rounds per week.

That is 5,000 rounds per year.

And THAT is just in one caliber!

So, why do folks get excited about someone having 10,000 rounds?

I sure would appreciate an explanation of the pic. It is a bit difficult to decipher what exactly is going on.

For example the two “soldiers” holding the woman in the foreground appear to be turning themselves into pretzels, whether out of self preservation or some comedy act is unclear.

Just as unclear is the two three or four “soldiers” to the left of the two holding the woman. Many hands doing who knows what and a perplexed look on the only face among many hands.

Is it really that hard?

Two soldiers are holding a woman in front of a ditch while a third takes aim at her head with an AK47. The two handlers are leaning out of the way to avoid the rifle. The execution took place seconds afterwards. Ten feet down the ditch another woman, held by two men in a similar circumstance. There were multiple executions that day.

I agree it could happen here - but only if we let it.

Liberals have wormed their way into our education system and have been brainwashing our kids for decades - but many families have managed to squelch the anti-gun brainwashing (leaving all animals are cute and fuzzy, wear white gloves and talk) by taking kids out shooting, starting them young and keeping them involved.

When the older generations of freedom lovers stop training the next generation to love freedom and how to defend it, then then it can happen here.

And you're right - the left will bide their time, continuing their leftist brainwashing and polluting of our yutes.

I love that today's BB-gun is the AR-15. Young people are building ARs as a hobby, learning weapons handling and something of their employment along the way. Three-gun competition is a great way to continue that as well.
We just need to defeat the indoctrination - in my family we did it with homeschooling.

Technically, most people don’t even own ‘high-capacity’ magazines. The most produced magazine in the US is the 30-rd magazine compatible with the M4/16 platform. So your 12 or 17rd handgun magazines are actually low-capacity.

Or am I missing something here?

The woman is being shot in the back of the head for, IIRC, possession and/or sale of drugs (I think it was weed). The soldiers holding her are in that position in an attempt to minimize the amount of her brains and blood being sprayed on them.

Think you’re missing the point. It has nothing to do w/ capacity. Its about shaping the conversation and defining its terms. Until the Clinton years there was no such thing as a hi cap mag. It was usually discussed in terms of numeric capacity. However, the libs decided that ‘hi cap mag’ would cause people to envision a sinister thing, much much more dangerous than one w/ fewer rds. However, they were careful not to actually define what hi cap was or their new lo cap. At a later date it was possible to vilify a mag they had previously blessed as OK for the masses. So, it went from some number to 10 (the lib magic number pulled out of a hat) and if allowed to continue would have been reduced from there. In short we need to take back the language and direction of the conversation.

I would say the two trainee executioners don’t want brain splatters on their uniforms.

Unlikely that your few hours per week can compete with the 40 or more hours of brainwashing they get, not just from the government school system, but from the news media and the culture at large.

You would have to convince them that these institutions are inimical to their best interests, which is inconsistent if not hypocritical as long as you submit your children to the government school system and allow them to participate in the culture.

Right thinking people must get their children OUT of the government school system and eschew any of the foolishness, stupidity, and outright sewage emanating from the entertainment and news media.

Home-school or private school your kids.

Shoot your television. Twice.

Spend your days learning and talking and singing together, sharing your hearts, becoming REAL to one another.

One of the best things about home schooling is that the parents learn right along with the kids.

Your kids will love you and respect you for it and will see that you really are serious about your convictions.

Oh, and, if it’s not too late, have as many kids as medically possible. Adopt if necessary.

The hand that rocks the cradle rules the world.
