It’s not about the sociopaths who shoot people. It’s about the average CCW-holder, many of whom never darken the doorway of a range or take follow-on training. I share that concern, as I know many CCW carriers who act just that way. They are, arguably, a danger to themselves and others.

But I do not think the answer lies in legislating and regulating. How about making the costs of a CCW holder getting training a deductible expense—or better yet, a tax credit? That would yield the benefit of encouraging such training and professionalism.

In my area, you can’t get the CCL without the training.

Having said that, if I buy a firearm to keep in my bedside drawer in case of an intruder, I doubt I’ll need training beyond “wait until you see the whites of their eyes” IOW, make sure its not hubby up getting a drink of water.

Requiring a FEE for a Training class before a CCW is issued is unconstitutional ...IMHO
Do you have to take a journalism class before you speak or write a letter to the editor ?
What other constitutional right requires a fee ????
I do think you should pass a test for firearm safety and have an oral exam, then a range qualifying session.
I was taught to shoot by the US navy in 1968, i have been shooting ever since.
Why should I have to pay (in SC) $300 bucks for a training class i can most likely teach ????, Then a “processing fee of $50 bucks to the sheriff for the paper work.
I should be able to go down to the sheriff’s office take a 50 -100 question test and then be observed on the range, if I pass i get my CCW
