Despite Mayor Michael Bloombergs advocacy for a healthier diet and strong support for gay marriage, hes cold on the idea of banning Chick-fil-A within the five boroughs.
As mayors around the country including Bostons, Chicagos and San Franciscos are backing efforts to keep the fast food chain out of their cities due to the companys president, Dan Cathy, spending millions to push back against gay marriage, Mr. Bloomberg said its a bad idea and its not going to happen on John Gamblings radio show this morning.
Theyre all friends but I disagree with them really strongly on this one, Mr. Bloomberg said of his mayoral colleagues. You cant have a test for what the owners personal views are before you decide to give a permit to do something in the city. You really dont want to ask political beliefs or religious beliefs before you issue a permit, thats just not governments job.
Mr. Bloomberg went on to argue that blocking a business based on their political beliefs opens a potential slippery slope where liberal cities block conservative establishments and vice versa with conservative cities.
Freedom of speech everybodys in favor of it as long as its what they want to hear, he explained. Well the only way that you have your freedom of speech is if you give other people freedom of speech. This is just a bad idea and its not going to happen in New York City.
The mayor didnt weigh in on Chick-fil-As particular cuisine, however.
Never had one, he said of their sandwiches, maintaining that they would be welcome to open a business in the city with the right permits and inspections. I didnt even know about them until I read about them in the paper.
He may have not been recently sampling the fast food in Greenwich Village.
A rare moment of sanity for Mayor Bloomy.
Wow. Did Bloomie use up all his crazy for the week?
No; he realizes that a city that is already chasing businesses out with taxes and regulations is lucky to have anyone open up shop there. Otherwise NYC fast-food cuisine would be limited to those super-sanitary “dirty-water dogs”.
In support, I would have lunch at a Chick-fil-A today, except the closest restaurant seems to be 10 hrs 18 mins / 623.81 miles from my house.... darn.

OMG!!! Mad Mikey has been kidnapped and replaced by a rational lookalike. The NYPD should be investigating where Mikey is...oh, wait, they're supposed to be going on strike soon...NEVER MIND!
The first I had head of that was on CNN last night. It was only mentioned, but no other details were given during the short time I was on CNN.
head=heard
Having sniffed the winds of politics Bloomberg sees his fellow rats being decimated by their stance against Chick-Fil-A and for once in his life sides with decency.........
If people knew who was working at these fast food places and traditional restaurants, and knew what goes on in these places, they'd never go back.
But if we decide go to a restaurant again, it will be this chicken house.
Looks like Bloomberg doesn't want conservatives to be forced to wear yellow stars... or to be ONLY allowed to do business in ghetto areas. Big of him... Too bad the other dem mayors are haters... eff 'em.
How benevolent and tolerant of him....FUBloomingidiot!
Sorry 'bout that... when you get the chance have the chicken sandwich with extra pickles and a large lemonade - - yummy yummy...
Bloomberg is the great satan. No funds for NYC after the big attack....... Let it disappear like Persopolis
Bloomturd, the Mayor that never disliked a ban he met...says this?
I guess the ‘broken clock/right twice a day’ thing is true yet again...
There is one about six miles from me and I’ll be in that area on Monday, so am going to get food to take home from there.
On another Chick-fil-A thread today, I was called “rude” by a poster for calling a homo a homo. He said it was a sleazy term. I guess he wanted me to call them “gay” - BS, they are homos. He said he has gay friends that go to Chick-fil-A. He and his “gay” honmo friends can go pound sand. Don’t remember his exact screen name or I would put it here - he is from California where there are a lot of homos for him to choose as friends.
Chick-Fil-A’s profits are going to rise dramatically. Ready to applaud big time when the numbers come out.
