That's actually a true statement. Because gun-control laws do not and have never prevented these tragedies at all.

They simply make it more likely that the body count will be higher because they make it less likely that an armed and well-regulated citizen will take the perp out.

Exactly! And the shootings in Aurora in fact make the case! The theater was a gun free zone. Nobody in the theater carried a gun, even those holding a concealed carry permit. This was supposed to guarantee everyone's safety. The result was just the opposite, as it will be if gun control laws are enacted. Facing no opposition from a disarmed audience, the mad gunman murdered at will.
