Child With Gay Parents Can’t Enroll At School (ABQ Christian School)
The Albuquerque Journal ^ | July 28, 2012 | Hailey Heinz

Posted on 07/28/2012 8:35:55 PM PDT by CedarDave

A local Christian school that has refused to enroll a student in its pre-K program because his parents are gay is violating the New Mexico Human Rights Act, the family’s attorney contends.

Attorney Shane Youtz, who represents the family, said the couple received a letter from Hope Christian school saying their three-year-old son would not be able to enroll because of his parents’ sexual orientation.

An official from Hope Christian – which received $61,455 in public, federal funding for the current budget year – declined to comment.

Youtz said the family hopes the school will change its mind, and that the matter can be resolved without litigation.

The New Mexico Human Rights Act prohibits discrimination in employment, housing and “public accommodations.” It also bans discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation.

The statute allows religious-based organizations to discriminate on that basis, but not if they have a nonprofit status.

Hope is a nonprofit, so Youtz contends the school must admit the student.

I'm conflicted on this - I'm sure the child will be more likely introduced to Christian moral values at the school than at home with the two "parents" (sexual gender not identified).

They will either shut down the school or force it to use a pro-gay curriculum.

If they had admitted the child, they would still get sued.... the parents would force all faith out of what the kids get taught

Admitting the kid threatens the curriculum. It’s not about the kid.

The “nonprofit” status was created as a bludgeon against faith

Great point, however I have to ask myself, is this just a setup? Why would 2 gay people want their child to be taught that homosexuality is an abomination in the eyes of God etc?

Just seems to me they may be trouble makers looking for a law suit? Pushing their agenda

Are they not aware what the Bible has to say about their lifestyle? I suppose it`s possible, so many are brainwashed these days

This school was targeted because they took Fed Money.

Solution= Give it up/back and never take again.

The public funding binds you to Caesar and not to God.

'Gay' "parents",

The First Amendment overrides your so-called "New Mexico Human Rights Act." Go pound sand. Or each other.

I don’t doubt that they know for a second. I believe that the homos are deliberately seeking out Christian institutions and businesses to make test cases and/or shut them down. It just doesn’t make sense otherwise that they would seek the services of Christian-based entities. It’s not as if there aren’t enough “Christian” in name only entities out there, if they really must have the label in order to assuage their consciences or advance their agenda to undermine true Christianity.

I think the kid is being used as a rattle snake, by the parents. If you refuse entry, you’re damned, and if you let him in, his parents pose a problem eventually with the religious teaching aspect.

It’s a no-win situation and the poor kid is caught in the middle. It’s a good way for the parents to show the kid who he shouldn’t associate with...ie...xians (ie any denom).

It’s like the athiest who sends his kid to a religious school and then sues the school for teaching about G-d. Or moves into a predominently christian town, then sues over the mangers and crosses...

It’s orchestrated using the kids as the bait.

Government blackmail!!!! This school should return the Federal funding and free itself from the clutches of the HomoNazis.

This "couple" of sexual perverts is just attempting what so many of the HomoNazis across the country engage in... Filing lawsuits against any group that rejects their sick, twisted sexual perversions. How long do you think it will be before that poor three year old starts dating his first boyfreind?

That’s true. Christian institutions are being forced to make their choice between God and mammon. Maybe this will help the process of separating the wheat from the chaff.

Passages like this kill me. The writer is obviously biased and the implication is that federal funds are good, because the federal government is the source of all righteousness, goodness and equality. I know, I know, the money has strings attached and there are laws in place but the mention of the cash is always a tipoff to the ongoing objective: the federal protection racket for special interests.

I’m not conflicted at all. These people do this for one reason and that is to attack religious schools especially Christian schools. As for them accepting cash from the state the small amount I’m sure is covered by the parents of the Christian students who pay local taxes. The argument that the the government can put forth whatever unreasonable demands and force a leftist agenda violating the freedom of association of their targets simply because they accept any tax payer funds is crazy. When liberals are the only ones paying taxes I might change my mind but they aren’t the only ones and their voice should not be granted a special level of legal standing simply because they are gay or whatever they might be.

Homosexuality is a perversion and I wish we had laws like those in St Petersburg Russia. These people have proven they will not live and let live. The time for playing nice is OVER. If you want a future governed by the Pink Hand then hide your head in the sand and go ahead and embrace the idea that believing marriage between a man and a women is bigotry but don’t you dare call yourself a conservative because you aren’t and you aren’t a moderate either you are a moron.

A NM photography studio run by a Christian couple refused to photograph a gay “wedding” and was sued by the couple. The case went through the NM courts and they lost because the business was ruled a “public accommodation” and as such could not discriminate. Again a case of baiting by the homosexuals bent on destroying Christian values.

I wonder if the school could agree to accept the kid under the condition that the “parents” agree not to interfere with their Biblical teaching, including that of homosexuality being an abomination to God. That might smoke the homos’ agenda out into the open. They wouldn’t have an easy time making the case that a Christian school can’t teach Biblical precepts, I wouldn’t think. But in today’s America, who knows.

“This school was targeted because they took Fed Money.”

What did they take the money for and doesn’t that violate the Establishment Clause...assuming the money came directly from the feds, rather than through parents?

I remember that case, and another one, in New Jersey I think, of a homo “couple” suing a church for not allowing them to use one of their facilities for their homo “wedding”. I think the church lost, on the grounds of the property being open to the public. The homos are truly evil and determined to force Christianity to the wall.
