You know, EG&G, the "E" being high speed photography pioneer "Doc" Harold Eugene Edgerton, came up with a capacitive glass shutter that allowed the blast photography. Mechanical shutters just aren't (weren't?) fast enough.

Never thought about EMP potentially affecting the electrical shutter.
