DENVER -- Thornton police arrested a Northglenn man Sunday after they said he walked into a movie theater with a handgun strapped to his waist.
James G. Mapes, 48, went into the Cinebarre theater at 10001 N. Grant Street with a handgun in an open carry position, said police spokesman Matt Barnes.
Police evacuated several theaters as a precaution and found Mapes, Barnes said.
"The subject's possession of the firearm caused alarm to the theater staff and fellow movie patrons," Barnes said in a news release.
Mapes was arrested for investigation of possession of a dangerous weapon in a liquor and beer establishment, Barnes said. The theater has a bar.
Mapes was booked into the Thornton jail and released on a municipal summons.

Have to look at the CO law but in Florida, the CCW (they are working on OC) is allowed to carry in an establishment that serves spirits but said person cannot step foot into the bar area, which means the restaurant portion or in this case the theater is fair grounds.
I will know we have won the 2nd amendment battle when we can open carry in airports.
Havn’t been to a movie in years, however knowing that there are open carry armed and sane patriotic citizens in there with me would be a reason to GO to the movies, regardless of what’s playing.
our Wisconsin CCW law allows carry in bars, but you can’t drink alcohol while there - you should be your group’s designated drive. If the bar is posted with a no guns sign, you either keep your gun in the car or decide if your safety is more important than a dumb sign and keep your gun hidden.
As far as I can tell, Mr. Mapes did not break any laws. Certainly, police that are willing to break the law can make innocent men lose easily. The police say: "You may beat the rap, but you won't beat the ride."
That sort of police state tactic is repulsive to most civilized people.
On the other hand, numerous police departments have paid out settlements when a civil suit was filed because of antics such as those mentioned in the story.
This was in the local news site when I got home from work at 6AM this morning:

I love picking a fight with those libs on there.
(Heh!)
“CCW (they are working on OC) is allowed to carry in an establishment that serves spirits but said person cannot step foot into the bar area,”
Colorado doesn’t ban possesion of a weapon near liquor. Colorado only bans possession of a firearm when under the influence.
Wait!....... they have movie theaters that sell liquor with the popcorn and Jujubes?
Dang, I may start going to movies again!
;-)
Don’t forget the legal standard for “influence” is 0.04 BAC, half that of drunk, 0.08. That’s about 1 beer an hour at most, and about 3 beers for a 4 hour evening. That 0.04 number comes up often, including the legal limit for flying planes. Casual dining at 1 or 2 beers over 2 hours should keep it legal.
I’d love to find one that catered to adults only and served a good dinner and drink along with comfy seating.
