Syracuse -- U.S. Rep. Richard Hanna took his own party to task today, saying the Republican Party is too willing to accommodate its most extreme members.
I have to say that Im frustrated by how much we I mean the Republican Party are willing to give deferential treatment to our extremes in this moment in history, he told The Post-Standard editorial board. Hanna, R-Barneveld, pointed specifically to Michele Bachmann of Minnesota particularly her suggestion that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton aide Huma Abedin be investigated to see if she has ties to Egypts Muslim Brotherhood that would compromise her loyalty. Hanna, a businessman who defeated Democratic incumbent Michael Arcuri two years ago, said his first term in Congress left him sad in a lot of ways because of the growing divisiveness on both sides of the aisle.
We render ourselves incapable of governing when all we do is take severe sides... he said. If all people do is go down there and join a team, and the team is invested in winning and you have something that looks very similar to the shirts and the skins, theres not a lot of value there.
While he blamed the dysfunction on both sides, he said he feels more bitterness coming from the Republican caucus than from the Democrats.
I would say that the friends I have in the Democratic Party I find ... much more congenial a little less anger, he said.

I hope that he is planning an early retirement.
Okay. Let’s hope his district can put on a happy face and dump this pathetic scumbag Hanna.
We need 50% +1 in the House. I am fully comfortable letting losers like this guy get beat. Strengthen the herd.
Does the Republican Party even have a platform any more? Most of them sound pretty much like democrats to me.
By the way, isn’t it funny how there don’t seem to be any Democrats willing to criticize their party’s extremist communist leadership?
What a wimp. Whiny b!tch. Throw him out in two more years.

Barneveld NY is located in a rather sparsely populated rural area that is on the edge of the Adirondack forest.
THIS is exactly why so many of us conservatives have soured on the Republican party. So this jerk gets along better with Democrats and thinks Republicans are a bit too testy? Maybe if he’d pull his head out and look around he’d realize the Democrats are taking this country on the fast road to financial and moral ruin. I’m really sorry we can’t wear smiley faces all the time, Rep. Hanna. I’m so sorry we conservatives have ruined your go along to get along good times in Congress. Geesh! We need to run all of these jokers out of DC on a rail.
Let me guess
Hes strongly endorsed Willard...
By the way, isnt it funny how there dont seem to be any Democrats willing to criticize their partys extremist communist leadership?
Unless you count the ones who have switched to the GOP in the past few years as "criticizing their leadership."
I guess they've found out that quiet logic and reasoning are not going to be productive.
The RINOs feel empowered now. I knew it was coming.
Hanna wants to graduate to a senior member of the House, or possibly the Senate, but he is about to get introduced to the Tea Party, and the end of his dreams.
He’ right. The left of center Republicans seem to run things, while the base gets almost nothing. Oh wait, that’s not what he’s saying.
Happens every 4 years. Like clockwork. After all, where are the conservatives going to go?
Every voter should read the republican platform. If the candidate has any significant odds with it, do not vote for them. However, there are no more than a handful of repubs that are even close to following their own platform.
Which is exactly why the GOP is the useless mess that it is.
A commie Repub complaining about Freedom Loving Repubs.
Pray for America
To the headline: one could only wish that were true.
Our illustrious looser leaders let people from terrorist nations come here. All Bachmann is saying, is lets make sure they’re not inside our government. And that’s supposed to be fringe thinking?
This is like a bad dream. Only when I pinch myself, I don’t wake up. There’s one zombie after another parading in front of us with arms outstretched mumbling something.
This sucks to high heavens!
Good point.
He endorsed Huntsman. Romney's probably too conservative for him. He won by a 6% margin, so this being NY state, he'll need to steer clear of nationally-known conservatives to the extent he can. It ain't pretty, but in NY, conservatives have a lousy image, and anyone who wants to win office as a GOP candidate there needs to sugar-coat the conservative message. I don't have a problem with RINO's winning office in blue states. It's preferable to the alternative.
I’d rather face 10,000 angry snarling union thugs in front of me, all armed with rifled bayonets than have 5 of these RINOs behind me.
Michele Bachmann is right in asking the question.
It should be looked into.
To dismiss this is odd.
I haven’t heard her critics says she is wrong yet, only that they are appalled that she asked the question.
Hanna sounds like a liberal who ran as a republican only to get elected.I suspect he’ll be pulling an Arlen Specter if he is re-elected.
Total tool. Useful idiot. Brain dead moron. Shouldn’t be allowed to have children.
Drop dead please.
Yeah, THAT’S the problem in the Republican Party.
I thought it was swinging right during election time, then ignoring the right once re-election was achieved. For like the umpteenth time.
True to the extent that the GOP-e are the extremists.
Richard, ol' buddy, ol' pal, are you willing to attest that there is absolutely no Muslim Brotherhood influence on Huma Abedin or any other member of the administration? You know this for a fact? And you would guarantee it -- in the name of your children and grandchildren?
Because, Richard, if you're not willing to commit yourself to this proposition, you've got no business complaining about Michelle Bachmann's inquiry. And you can't be considered a serious Congressman, held responsible for the national security of the United States and its citizens.
Yes, the RINO’s are way too extreme
The only political group that is offensive to a Rino is the group that is anti-socialist.
Doing the wrong thing bipartisan-ly, is still doing the wrong thing, Jackwagon.
I agree. We need a real conservative party. I pray it will happen eventually. Just hope it won’t be too late.
A few weeks back Ed Rollins was asked about Romney’s failure to win southern states during the pimaries.
HE LAUGHED and said they’ll vote for Romney because they have no other choices.
Yankees, who needs ‘em?
already gone..LaTourette..
soon, if we're lucky.. Hanna
