Last week I told you that Lenny B. Robinson I unmasked him as the Route 29 Batman after he was stopped by police in his Lamborghini this spring had just picked up his new $200,000 Batmobile in Canada and was driving cross-country visiting sick children in hospitals.
He was doing so, I wrote, even after the horrible massacre in Colorado during the opening of The Dark Knight Rises at a theater in Aurora. I will continue to portray this iconic superhero, giving courage to sick children around the world that need it most, he wrote on the Facebook page for his new charity, Superheroes for Kids.
Some of those visits have hit a snag.
Late last week, childrens hospitals in St. Louis and Chicago cancelled his visits, apparently concerned our Caped Crusaders presence would trigger scary thoughts about the massacre. A spokeswoman for Lurie Childrens Hospital in Chicago told the Sun-Times that officials consulted child psychiatrists and decided such a visit could be upsetting to patients and parents.
Other hospitals, including the Childrens Hospital of Illinois, in Peoria, welcomed him as planned. You can watch a video of that visit here.

Batman's new wheels.
That car looks like a 60-something Pontiac. Maybe even a GTO with fins.
Atomic batteries to power! Turbines to speed!
Actually, the original was a heavily-modified Lincoln, done by the Master, George Barris.

A little work, and that would make a great Deathmobile!

Maryland “Freak State” PING!
This car is new. He’s had pretty standard Lambos before. I don’t know what to say about his primary model - although I’d prefer Adam West. ;-)
Great to see a recreation of the original Lincoln-type Batmobile!
On a serious note - I’m sick of these ninnies. Half those kids probably don’t even KNOW about the massacre. The other half probably don’t know it was a Batman movie. Geesh. “Oh, we don’t want to upset anyone as we know how fragile every single person is.....” which is exactly what they end up molding by their treatment of them - fragile ninnies.
I went to school with the daughter on one of the guys who made the original.
For this guy, he just needs to wait. Batman will ne welcome again soon.
