My theory is if McCain had chosen Pawlenty or Romney, the resulting media scrutiny in election cycle 2008 would not be what we've seen against Palin.

But as soon as she burst onto the national stage, it will be existential hatred from both media and GOP establishment. Remember she got unbelievable scorns from GOP insiders and media happily 'reporting' along?

She would still get slanted coverage but not an all out war to destroy her.

I don’t think we’ll ever see again the kind of crowds that Sarah Palin drew to her campaign appearances. People loved her; folks were motivated, excited, so relieved and pleased to “see” and “hear” someone/something different than what the gop-e had been pushing our way for years. She was so refreshing, so “real” ... indeed! As I said, I don’t think we’ll ever see again, the crowds that she drew on the republican/conservative side of the political spectrum.

They had to destroy her. When she came out to give that acceptance speech in ‘08, it was clear we had a media mega-star. I’ll never forget the black look on Newt’s face while he watched her burn down the house. She was a woman, a sexy, beautiful woman who had plenty of moxie, ambition and great speaking skills. She shocked the good old boys of both parties. And they went after her with a vengeance.
