Who takes art in high school?
I did. I took pottery in art class for two years. It was considered as a trade craft. Same with wood and metal shop which I also took, though neither of those would be considered "art" classes.
(I took the second year more as a "skills honing" course than a learning course since I found it so challenging)

Lots of people.

I don’t think I did, but lots of people. My son did, and he’s about to get his degree in Business Analytics (which is about as far from Art as you can get).
