A Vermont man is accused of single-handedly leaving a path of destruction at one police station...

Police say 34-year-old Roger Pion of Newport, Vt. took his family's farm tractor and ran over the cars just after lunchtime Thursday.

Apparently, Pion was none-too happy about being arrested for resisting arrest after being caught with marijuana.

I live in Vermont and learned of this moments after it happened. I am gathering signatures for a petition to:
(1) Restrict ownership of high-powered assault tractors
(2) Ban the use of high-capacity tractor tires
(3) Establish a database of current tractor owners
These are reasonable tractor control measures that will help to prevent future farm violence.

Were they all Government Motors cars?

Will the PD be getting another Obama grant to replace them?

I rather doubt that the stoner has the resources to do so.

More important: where will the police officers be able to sit and chat for hours on their mobile phones?

Did the police respond by shooting his dog?

There were dogs in the police cars, but, fortunately, they were not affected by the violence, they had already died of heat exhaustion.

Don’t for get to go after the concealed tractor license regulations, need to make sure that law abiding tractor owners are denied the right to have and use a tractor!

“I thought stoners were harmless.”

They are far more harmless and healthy than alcoholics.

Alcohol is 100% medically proven to destroy every single organ in the body including the brain. Alcohol is so physically addictive that it is not uncommon to die from withdrawal. Alcohol is also 100% proven to cause impairment in all people. Alcohol is a proven automatic trigger of blacked-out violence in certain people.

In over 5000 years, there has not been a SINGLE recorded case of Cannabis causing any damage to the body. There is no conclusive medical evidence that it causes any permanent changes at all. There is no conclusive evidence that it causes any psychological issues. Cannabis is no more harmful to the majority of people than video games, facebook or gambling.

Yes, it has been proven that a greater percentage of criminals, schizophrenics and bipolar people smoke Cannabis than average. The same is true of tobacco cigarettes and many other bad habits. 80% of schizo people smoke them vs. 25% of average people. That does NOT prove that cannabis causes it anymore than you can prove tobacco causes it.

With no dogs left they might as well conduct a botched raid on Pion’s neighbor and shoot him.

Back in 1972, in my sr year of HS I did a report on the “evils of Marijuana”. I was a goody two shoes and thought it was bad stuff.

After completing my research I started smoking dope.

That said, I have not touched the stuff since 1977. Getting high is the equivalent, biblically speaking, of getting drunk.

. . . took his family's farm tractor and ran over the cars just after lunchtime Thursday.

OK. Marijuana caused the munchies. The junk food he ate for lunch caused him to go psycho with the big tractor.

Let's require registration of Fritos or whatever it was that he ate for lunch. Probably too much salt. That causes high blood pressure which causes people to go psycho.

Damn, can't we have a lot of fun on this thread?

“That said, I have not touched the stuff since 1977.”

I can practically guarantee that the reason for this was your own personal decision, not because of the law or because you couldn’t get the plant. Prohibition doesn’t actually stop anyone from getting drugs. It only makes certain people very rich. Prohibition is such a failure that if you go to any real nightclub in a major city, dealers will approach you constantly and sometimes even hand out cards/pamphlets. You don’t have to search through seedy backalleys to find anything. If you have money to spend, the dealers will FIND YOU, compete for you and deliver anything you want as fast as a pizza…

“Getting high is the equivalent, biblically speaking, of getting drunk.”

I agree that this is true for most people but there are some that actually function better if they take cannabis. The cases I’ve seen were due to anxiety and autism spectrum disorders. They were all previously using addictive and toxic drugs that didn’t work as well until they tried medical cannabis. Cannabis is also by far the best appetite stimulant.

On the other hand, there is NO medical purpose for drinking alcohol except as a solvent for other drugs. Cannabis is less toxic than every single drug and most natural ‘supplements’ found OTC at your pharmacy. Also remember that cannabis doesn’t have to be smoked. It can be easily grown and prepared into pills at home with nothing but kitchen utensils. There is currently no synthetic drug that exactly replicates what is naturally found in cannabis. These compounds can ONLY be taken directly from the plant but medical research of these compounds is almost impossible due to the insane laws.

The question is, how can a legitimate government support a violent prohibition on recreational cannabis and not do the same for alcohol (which is medically worse in every way)?

And even if they banned ALL intoxicating substances, prohibition is always impossible to enforce in a somewhat free society. During alcohol prohibition, entire truckloads of heavy booze were still smuggled. With narcotics, it’s a completely different ball game. One package the size of a brick today has more black market value than an entire truckload of illegal liquor did in the 30s.

Dried cannabis is worth its weight in $20 bills and grows easier than many weeds! How the hell can you even put a dent in a victimless action that is SO profitable?

In Iran they execute 400-500 dealers every year and jail users at the drop of a hat. In North Korea, there is nearly 100% surveillance of everyone who is not yet imprisoned. Such policies have done nothing to curb the high rates of drug abuse in those countries.

There is no magic bullet to make everyone always responsible, sober and addiction free. Intoxication/addiction does hurt many people but the answer sure as hell isn’t more government violence and less rights for all of us like drug warriors want us to believe.

That is correct. I am an advocate for its legality and control just like alcohol.
