ADA, MI - A leading national gay rights activist announced he is launching on Amway boycott three years after the direct selling giant's president donated $500,000 to a conservative group that has worked to ban gay marriage.
LGBT rights activist Fred Karger says he is officially announcing the boycott of the Ada-based company and other DeVos family businesses including the Orlando Magic basketball team during a press conference this afternoon in Las Vegas.
Karger says he has obtained tax records that show Doug DeVos gave $500,000 to the National Organization for Marriage (NOM) Education Fund through his Douglas & Maria DeVos Foundation.
Karger called the gift "largest family donation to NOM in its history. Only the Catholic Church’s political arm the Knights of Columbus has given more to the ‘Hate Group’ NOM.”
The donation appears to have been made in 2009.
Fueled with large donations from the Catholic and the Mormon churches, the organization campaigned for Proposition 8 in California, a constitutional amendment to prohibit same sex marriage. The organizations supports similar efforts in other states.
"With four crucial gay marriage elections coming up on November 6 we feel that an Amway Boycott will send a message to Amway owners and other potential mega-donors that if you plan to give lots of money to anti-LGBT organizations like NOM or directly to the November anti-gay marriage campaigns we may well take action against you,” Karger said in a statement.
1. Gays said all they wanted was to be left alone, free to make their own choices in an atmosphere of tolerance. Now if you don't support full marriage equality you are attacked.
2. They also said they would be glad to have civil unions. Now nothing but FULL marriage EQUALITY will do. Even the National Organization for Marriage which supports civl unions is listed as a "Hate Group".
Not to mention how threatening and aggressive and blatantly divisive and disrespectful their tactics have become!

This nasty bastich probably has stock in Amway and wants to see the profits go up...because if this has legs, that is exactly what will happen.
They most likely got the records of NOM showing their donors.
Yes, it is all about petty resentment and stewing.
This whole thing with Chick-Fil-A, Amway, and NOM, only came about because THEY have greedily demanded full marriage equality instead of stopping at civil unions as would have been the just and noble thing to do.
They believe that by equating the gay agenda with the black civil rights movement of the ‘50s and 60s, they are sure to win -—and that decades from now, all of us will look as stupid as those who were with the KKK back then. HOWEVER they are forgetting that their movement is vastly different, and that forces are at work (proven on Wed Aug 1 20120) which can and will reverse them.
Rich DeVos needs to tell Mr. Gay-Rights-Activist that he’ll donate to gay rights causes when HE donates to Christian, traditional family values causes.

EXACTLY.
Just how in the hell would you boycott Amway? Their products are not sold in stores, they don’t even have stores to boycott. Would you get a list of Amway distributors and terrorize their neighborhood? Go after people who have Amway products in their homes? Kick down doors to see if you have any Amway under your kitchen sink or in your laundry room?
