I went to a local indoor range that has rentals, and tried out a few. They had a good assortment of 9's for rental use... Sigs, Glocks, Berettas, Kahr etc. (none of which I had time to try).
I did shoot three nice pistols.
First was the CZ-75. I have to admit- I was impressed. Felt very comfortable, even in my small hands. After figuring out the sights with the first round, I was all 9s and 10s on the target. Target re-acquisition after each round was easy and almost instinctive.
Next I tried the XD. I have no doubt that it's a fine weapon, but I never got comfortable with the grip safety. Had one stove-pipe, and several "failure to feed", but I'm certain that was my fault, not the gun.
Finally, the range employee suggested I try a Dan Wesson 1911 chambered in 9MM. All I can say is "WOW". Granted it was only seven yards, but I was tearing up the 10 ring. I don't have the funds for something like that, but it sure was a joy to try out.
At least now I'll have a little more info when I go to the gun show in a couple of weeks. All things being equal, if I can find a private seller with a good price on the CZ, I think I'm convinced that is a good way to go.
Again, thanks to all who chimed in last week.
Very Cool deo, glad you found a go to gun that fits you.
I don’t think you can go wrong with a Dan Wesson. They are fine weapons.
I am glad you found the CZ to be a pleasant experience.
I'm down to about 14 handguns and while I carry a Glock daily, nothing is more accurate and comfy on the range than my 1911's. Every man needs at least one.
This may be the next best thing. No grip safety though.
