The president's speech calls to mind a "West Wing" episode in which speechwriter Sam Seaborn (Rob Lowe) explains to the staff of some liberal house members why he won't insert a line in President Bartlet's upcoming speech. They want the president to attack Republican tax cut proposals as financing "private jets and swimming pools" for the wealthy. As Seaborn argues:
Henry, last fall, every time your boss got on the stump and said, "It's time for the rich to pay their fair share," I hid under a couch and changed my name. I left Gage Whitney making $400,000 a year, which means I paid 27 times the national average in income tax. I paid my fair share, and the fair share of twenty-six other people. And I'm happy to 'cause that's the only way it's gonna work, and it's in my best interest that everybody be able to go to schools and drive on roads, but I don't get 27 votes on Election Day. The fire department doesn't come to my house 27 times faster and the water doesn't come out of my faucet 27 times hotter. The top 1 percent of wage earners in this country pay for 22 percent of this country. Let's not call them names while they're doing it, is all I'm saying.
When Barack Obama has made an argument for progressive taxation that even Aaron Sorkin finds distasteful, he has erred. That's not a problem that has anything to do with the president being black.

For God’s Sake, someone with a inside line to the Romney campaign and Karl Rove’s organization send this to them:
Henry, last fall, every time your boss got on the stump and said, “It’s time for the rich to pay their fair share,” I hid under a couch and changed my name. I left Gage Whitney making $400,000 a year, which means I paid 27 times the national average in income tax. I paid my fair share, and the fair share of twenty-six other people. And I’m happy to ‘cause that’s the only way it’s gonna work, and it’s in my best interest that everybody be able to go to schools and drive on roads, but I don’t get 27 votes on Election Day. The fire department doesn’t come to my house 27 times faster and the water doesn’t come out of my faucet 27 times hotter. The top 1 percent of wage earners in this country pay for 22 percent of this country. Let’s not call them names while they’re doing it, is all I’m saying
Obama is like an auto repair shop that does not fix the problem with your car and in fact returns it to you with additional problems. Then they demand to be paid for working on it and making it worse each time.
____
Exactly!
It resonates because, more than anything else Barak Obama has ever said, this defines for the world what he is about. To many, it is a jarring realization.
No wonder TOTUS came out of retirement!
What’s amazing is that I’ve been scouring my brain for 3.5 years trying to come up with a bumper-sticker slogan under 4 words, that encapsulates this sick piece of stupidity known as 0bamunism with no luck...and here it is right out of his own mouth. It’s remarkable.
It resonates because it so accurately sums up the collectivist mindset in a nutshell.
Resonates? Try illustrates. More than anything else Barak Obama has ever said, this comment illustrates his core philosophy. It is jarring to most people.
Is it any wonder TOTUS came out of retirement!
How very easy to go from “You didn’t built that” to “You can’t build that”
You didn’t post that.
its collectivism vs individualism. Obama didn’t want individuals to take credit for their hard work and being smart. He want the credit to go towards government
and from there to "You can't have that, so give it to the government."
Un-belivable that someone made a poster out of ...
1) this guy
2) this issue
My hat is off to them. Wow.
Or did he mean “ you didn’t build that “ meaning ? white people didn’t build this country up, that this country was built up on black slaves sweat and blood ?
