Over the next two years, Curiosity will drive over to a mountain rising from the crater floor, poke into rocks and scoop up rust-tinted soil to see if the region ever had the right environment for microscopic organisms to thrive. Its the latest chapter in the long-running quest to find out whether primitive life arose early in the planets history.

OK, I'll be the first. "We can put an SUV sized explorer on Mars, but we can't cure the common cold."
☺This is quite the technological achievement, and hopefully we will get some great results.

Any live video of the landing?

Congratulations NASA and the United States. This was one of the most uplifting events of the year!
NASA TV streaming HD real time video was superb.

The USA can still git er done.

As a kid I watched a whole series of documentaries about Martian life produced by Warner Bros.

I’m all for space exploration, but focusing on a “search for life” in a desperate attempt to prop up evolution theories is ridiculous.

Great technological achievement — but not sure it’s worth $2.5 billion — no matter how many rocks it turns up.

Does anyone have a timetable on when we can expect more pics, anything related to when/where it will start to move, any stuff like that?
And please don’t just post a link to the NASA website. I HATE that website, every page is overloaded with Javascript and has at least a thousand other references other than what you are trying to find.
NASA seriously needs to hire a decent webmaster!

This is a great achievement, but Hussein must be disappointed - where is the muslim outreach?

Why does the first picture from every Mars landing look like it was shot with a Kodak Brownie Box Camera through a peephole on Verichrome Pan?
To: Islander7
Well, I suppose it’s nice to see that NASA finally figured out how to either use only one measurement system, or they’ve learned how to successfully convert between them.
