C'est Chick
The Weekly Standard ^ | 13 Aug 2012 | Matt Labash

Posted on 08/06/2012 6:24:44 AM PDT by Rummyfan

Last week, at the beach with my family, I deliberately ignored all newspapers. Not for the reason most people do—because print is dead. But because whenever I’m surrounded by salt -water, steamed crabs, and even mediocre fishing, I tend to hold that true happiness is having no idea what chronically bothered people are talking about.

It never lasts. Civil war has a way of puncturing happiness bubbles. No, not the atrocities in Syria. I’m talking much hairier than your run-of-the-mill massacre: I’m talking about the Chick-fil-Gay wars. Ever since Chick-fil-A president and COO Dan Cathy, who is against gay marriage, dared offer that he supports “the biblical definition of the family unit,” the indignant have been manning their outrage stations.

There are boycotts and kiss-ins. D.C. mayor Vincent Gray, in a solemn Tweet, decried “hatechicken.” Chicago mayor Rahm Emanuel said Chick-fil-A has no place in his city. (And Emanuel has no place at the family-friendly Chick-fil-A—not with his potty mouth.) Emanuel intoned that “Chick-fil-A’s values are not Chicago values.” This was a breaking-news twofer, as most people weren’t aware that the graft-laden youth-homicide capital of the United States had any values.

It’s come to this: if you don’t declare that you are enthusiastically for some position viz. the homosexual agenda, you are a HATER!!!! Yes, a nasty, vicious, right-wing HATER!!!!It doesn’t matter if even many anti-homo marriage lefties were not labeled as such. Or that the majority of the American population is against homo marriage. Because you don’t agree with the views of a tiny minority of people, you are a hater. And I must say, I do hate homosexual advocates. I don’t hate individual homosexuals (I’ve known a few and had some over for Thanksgiving dinner), but I do hate the anti-American fanatics who comprise the homo agenda orgs. It is war.

Honestly chicken is a healthier leaner meat than beef, I wonder why libs would ever have a problem with that, especially when they already considered McDonald’s a bad place. What else is left. Ask me, and I would say hitting Dairy Queen or Chick Fil-A after a beach trip isn’t a bad idea.

Amusing. But like just about everything from The Weekly Standard, standardly weak. If universal gay marriage isn’t worth a fight, what is? It’s one of the reasons, take a deep breath, that we HAVE free speech and freedom of religion. Without those freedoms, the argument for and against a social (never mind an actual) good or evil can’t take place. Chick-Fil-A brought that battle, the WHOLE battle, squarely to where it belongs—not to the courts or even the legislatures, but the PUBLIC square.

And I wouldn’t be too quick to jump on the what-the-polls-say wagon. Do we really believe that most CFA visitors on the first of August were there to support free speech? Free speech, at the moment, doesn’t require their immediate support; it’s still part of the landscape. But gay marriage isn’t; and a whole lot of Americans apparently aren’t willing to paint it in.

I saw a Rasmussen poll a couple of days ago that says 53 percent now support homosexual marriage.

I really don’t care if homosexuals want to cohabit and even have some kind of civil ceremony that makes them legally responsible for one another.

But it hasn’t and won’t end there. They want more than tolerance — they want acceptance.

And that means churches will be required to “marry” them. When the don’t (and they won’t if they are true to their religion — any religion) then the pro-homosexual marriage forces (homosexuals and ignorant non-homosexuals) will marginalize all religions opposing their agenda.

This will soon thereafter mean the loss of tax-exempt status for all churches and religion-affiliated institutions that don’t succumb to homosexual demands.

And that will be the proverbial nail in the coffin for organized religion in America. Put another way, it will fuifill one of the aims of the communists — to wipe out religion.

Agree, but lets be honest. This fight was brought to the public square by the intolerant left.

Dan Cathy made his remarks to a small Baptist circular read by 38-40 people (slightly more than the NYT).

Comically, the heterophobes brought this on themselves.

Absolutely! Just goes to show how important this battle is to the left.

Doesn’t the right label the left as America-haters, freedom-haters, God-haters, etc?

It would appear that haters are on both sides.

Spare us the ill-informed relativism.

If you label something as what it is, you are not a hater. You are a taxonomist.

If you labelled Sandusky as a pederast, would you be a hater? Or would you be correct?

If you labelled Hitler or Stalin as democidal Dictators, would you be a hater? Or would you be correct?

And if you labelled the Left as haters - as progressives who hate order - as Marxists who hate liberty - as demoniacs who hate God - you would also be correct.

Name something that isn’t relative to something else.

Labels are just that, labels.

The left (liberals/democrats) ARE America-haters, freedom-haters, God-haters, etc.

Liberals/democrats love and worship government/socialism though. Government is evil . So their love of government shows they are evil.

"both sides"

That is correct. In my case, I hate certain anti-American groups and I hate communism, Nazism, and all other fascisms. But there are few individuals on the other side I actually detest. I still don't govern my life by being in a permanent state of hate. Which is the the way the left likes to depict the right. (In fact, 99% of time I'm a fairly happy, tolerant person.) To the left, we, conservatives, are permanently in a whipped-up state of hysterical hate. That is not the case of the conservatives I know. But if detesting certain fascist ideologies like the above makes a person a hater, then call me a hater. And let me state further, if you don't hate certain types of fascist ideology, you might have a problem

Most of the ballyhooing about fat has been proven to incorrect.

The MSM was expecting this to be an easy victory - the illusion that all people were against the 'Christian bigot' would play well - and who would oppose?

Gays had one more victory, right?

The truth of the Chick-fil-A protest squashed that - turns out a couple million conservatives showed up - and a few days later a few dozen kiss-in participants.

It was impossible for newspapers to lie - to say it was all equal - or a wash between the two sides - or the win they originally wanted to proclaim... As you say Rubble Rouser, the remarks were originally made to be read by fewer than 60 people - but the left smelled an easy victory. They were wrong. They were greedy. And we've got their number now.
