Gov. Martinez Given Key Speaking Slot at Republican National Convention
Albuquerque Journal ^ | August 6, 2012 | Michael Coleman

Gov. Susana Martinez, a key player in Mitt Romney’s strategy to win Hispanic voters, has been given a top speaking slot at the Republican National Convention in Tampa Bay, Fla. later this month.

The Republican National Committee made the announcement this morning, describing Martinez as “the first female Hispanic governor in the U.S. and the first female governor of New Mexico.”

It’s unclear when Martinez will speak – or if her speech is scheduled in a prime-time slot – but she is among just seven speakers announced this morning. Others announced include Republican heavy hitters such as Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., former Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice and South Carolina Gov. Nicky Haley.

Jay McCleskey, a Martinez political advisor, told the Journal this morning via email that the governor has not been officially vetted by the Romney campaign.

Interesting line up of speakers, especially so in light of those missing.

Glad to hear Susana is in the lineup... downside is this means she’s probably not the VP selectee.

I wonder which boring, dull white guy Romney will select..

She is certainly a great change from Richardson, isn't she?

I'm looking for someone to tell me why a conservative should watch the Republican National Convention. For the first time in my adult life, I won't be.

McCain should be thoroughly boo’d by every republican on the floor. Not a word out of his mouth is worth listening to.

I am not familiar with Gov. Martinez, so I will watch her. As for the others -- McCain, Huckabee, Rice, etc. -- no thanks.

Looks like the ole party hack speakers might help Netflix and channel surfing.

Can The REPUBs please get over McCain. He is among Obama’s biggest fan and practically single-handedly gave us Obama as president. That should have been the last word about him. McCain needs to be hidden away not featured.

We tried to get rid of him here in AZ but his machine is too wealthy and ingrained in the politics here. Look for his daughter to be pushed on us when he finally leaves the scene.

Thanks for the ping! I hadn’t seen this. Pretty cool she has a speaking role - I am a big fan of her and the way she’s running NM!

I read somewhere that he spend something like $20 million or more of HIS OWN money trying to defeat J.D. Hayworth in the primary.

Why oh why would someone spend that much of their own money to keep their seat??? Craziness.

I also agree with you that big mouth, vapid Meghan will be foisted on the citizens of AZ when McLame finally decides to retire. And of course, she’ll have the money of her own to spend too *sigh* What a shame.

Nope, she has made it clear she doesn't want to be considered. Her only job right now is to clean up the Richardson corruption including eliminating drivers licenses for illegals, reforming public education, and reducing red tape for small and large businesses.
