TAMPA -- Local Muslims are asking for the removal of a state-contracted counter-terrorism instructor whom they say spreads false information about their religion and encourages law enforcement officers in Florida to racially profile people of the Islamic faith.
The Council on American-Islamic Relations in Tampa sent a letter Tuesday to state officials, asking them to sever ties with instructor Sam Kharoba. The trainer's presentations are "full of inaccuracies, sweeping generalizations and stereotypes," the letter said.
"He encourages law enforcement officers to view Muslims with distrust," said Hassan Shibly, executive director of CAIR in Tampa. "His training materials encourage law enforcement officers to profile and target Muslims."
Kharoba's training manual says Islam favors war, not peace, and says countries with a 99-percent Muslim population are "ultimate Jihad-manufacturing societies," according to the council's letter.
The council's claims, Kharoba said, are baseless.
"CAIR's statements are manufactured distractions designed to shift blame onto the law enforcement agencies that are protecting the American people," Kharoba said.
Kharoba owns a for-profit company called the Counter Terrorism Operations Center. His company was hired by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement to offer the training sessions.
The FDLE is reviewing CAIR's concerns, spokeswoman Gretl Plessinger said.
The department has "received positive feedback" from people taking Kharoba's courses, Plessinger said.
The FDLE, which organizes several training sessions a year for state police officers, had to cancel a few classes in the spring because of a lack of participants, Plessinger said.
One of the canceled sessions was to be taught by Kharoba.
Shibly said Kharoba's manual and related presentations may have influenced local officers. People in Tampa's Muslim community have reached out to CAIR, saying they were harassed by Hillsborough County deputies, Shibly said.
Deputies are not taught or encouraged to harass anyone, sheriff's spokesman Larry McKinnon said.

Not all Muslims are terrorist, but darn near all terrorists are Muslims.
Eff them. B****rds want to kill us all, as their uniformly barbaric behavior toward minority Christians in EVERY country where muzzslimes are the majority proves. Kick them out of America now. When they start developing nuclear weapons, thoroughly nuke them first without mercy.
“OMG,” people will say, “you want to murder the innocent along with the guilty; you’re worse than they are.” No, I’m telling you what we have to do to survive.
It is not possible to racially profile a Muslim. They come in lily white, charcoal black and every shade between.
Due to their policy of taqiyya, no Muslim can ever be trusted unless he is an apostate. And he could be lying about that, for the advancement of Islam!
if you dont be nice they will kill you
So they don’t agree with you, CAIR?
Too damn bad. Return to your homelands if you wish to deny free speech. You’ll fit right in there.
If they don’t like this instructors’ admonishment, imagine what CAIR thinks about what should be done with the rest of us.
Was he teaching that Islam is an actual religion and not a cult?
Was he teaching that Islam is peaceful and will only seek out violence when all other avenues of submission have failed?
Was he teaching that the Qu’ran was actually written by Muhammad, despite being illiterate?
I wonder why Moslems are getting so offended when people speak the truth about their customs and culture - they chose that it be that way - not us. If they don’t like the info being put out - maybe they ARE THE ONES TO REFORM - not the rest of us!
Then PROVE to us that the Islamic faith is one that can be trusted by those who are not of that faith. From our readings, it certainly cannot. Lying to "dhimmis" is allowed in this faith, as long as it promotes the faith. Treating non-believers with different (and always harsher) rules than believers is common in every Muslim nation. If we cannot believe the Quran, or the results we see in practice all over the Muslim world, then what shall we believe? Your personal complaints about fairness???
This saying needs to be on a t-shirt...
Now i have to go and buy a new keyboard after spitting out my coffee in laughter! I was caught of guard...
