Now that they have that transfusion thing pretty much under control etc, the spread of aids can be stopped if people stop sticking things in them in places that society says they don’t belong and also if one sits on his hands and shuts his mouth the odds are better at surviving.
Except, of course, that outside of the gay community and intravenous drug abusers, aids is all but unheard of.

The probability of a promiscuous gay man (but I repeat myself) getting aids is close to unity; the probability of a straight non-iv drug abuser getting it is close to zero.
The way epidemics work is: when the average number of people that an infected person infects is greater than one, the disease spreads. When the average number of people infected per victim is one, the disease remains at steady state. When the average number of people infected by the a victim is less than one, the disease eventually disappears. This is what would happen to aids without homosexual promiscuity.
