Does this mean Petraeus is also a RINO?.....
Since Colin Powell emerged on the scene the general officer corps has been loaded with politicians. Many of the field grade officers of the Clinton era are no doubt filing the top ranks of all services. Petraeus didn’t become a 4 star general or head of the CIA without considerable political skills and very good friends in high places.
Much as we would desire a pure meritocracy, most people who rise to the top of large organizations (government, military, corporations, journalism, academia) know first how to win friends and influence people. As we’ve see with the current President of the United States, actual accomplishments are not required to achieve elective office. We should not forget the same President who appointed Mr. Petraeus also appointed Van Jones, Elena Kagan, Sonia Sotamayor, Hillary Clinton, Leon Panetta, Janet Napolitano, Kathleen Sabelius, Cass Sunstein, and Steven Chu to some of the highest offices in the nation. While I would like to believe Mr. Petraeus was appointed purely on the basis of his accomplishments during his military career, the track record of this administration would lead one to believe his political philosophy must be in alignment with the President. Therefore, Romney choosing Petraeus as his VP candidate would tend to confirm suspicions of many conservatives about the true nature and agenda of the Republican Party.
