Obama’s sleaziest ad yet: Romney kinda sorta killed a man’s wife by closing down his steel plant
Hotair ^

Posted on 08/07/2012 4:49:03 PM PDT by chessplayer

Please, spare me the objection that this comes from The One’s Super PAC, not his formal campaign, and therefore it’s technically not an “Obama ad.” That excuse never flew for Romney when his own Super PAC was carpet-bombing Gingrich and Santorum in the primaries. The wall of separation between a campaign and its PAC is all but invisible to the naked eye. If you think it’s easy for the White House to get Harry Reid to smear Romney over his tax returns, imagine how easy it must be for them to get former White House spokesman and current Priorities USA honcho Bill Burton to fling feces like this.

They won’t attack him for being Mormon (I hope), so calling him a murderer will have to do:

The pro-Obama super PAC Priorities USA Action lobbed a heavy-duty attack at Mitt Romney this morning, airing an ad that links the closure of a GST Steel plant in Kansas City to the loss of a family’s health insurance — and the death of a woman some time later…

"In the case of this particularly jarring super PAC ad, it may also be relevant that Soptic’s wife died in 2006, years after the GST factory closed down…

I asked Priorities USA strategist Bill Burton to explain the connection between Romney, Bain and a cancer fatality that happened near the end of Romney’s tenure as governor of Massachusetts. The lapse in time between the plant closing and Soptic’s death doesn’t mean the ad is invalid, but it raises questions about the cause and effect relationship here.

“We’re illustrating how long it took for communities and individuals to recover from the closing of these businesses,” Burton responded. “Families and individuals had to find new jobs, new sources of health insurance and a way to make up for the pensions they lost. Mitt Romney has had an enduring impact on the lives of thousands of men and women and for many of them, that impact has been devastating.”

Romney stopped doing work for Bain in 1999; the steel plant in question here closed down in 2001; Soptic’s wife passed away in 2006; and yet, Romney’s somehow culpable. Perfection. You know what’s really interesting about this spot? It’s not even a health-care ad. It’d be sleazy under any circumstances, but there’d at least be a concrete policy angle if Burton was selling it as an argument for, say, single-payer, to decouple insurance from employment. He’s not. There appears to be no actual policy argument here at all, unless The One now opposes layoffs on principle, for fear that someone somewhere might be left without insurance. Is that where our very pro-business president — seriously, just ask him — is now at? As John Sexton says, does this mean O himself is on the hook until 2014 for any deaths that resulted from GM dealerships being closed in 2009? I thought workers bore some responsibility to find a new job with insurance after they’re laid off, but if he wants to take the blame for human tragedies at Government Motors, fine by me.

I’m sure Zero and his minions (and his enablers in the “news” media) are saving their best for October.

I wish someone would tell Romney that it’s OK to be pissed off and say “lie” when he’s being slandered. Dems are calling him a tax cheat and a murderer and he’s acting like they are misstating his position on tax policy. It kind of reminds me of Dukakis’ response to the question about how he would feel if his wife were raped and murdered. Show some passion Mitt!

FR posters at a similar article on Soptic and the ad said that this was the lowest that the Democrat-smear machine had gone and that their ability to go so low in ethics was unboundless.

I agree.

To make a visual comparison on just how bottomless the ability of the Democrats is to smear a person, this ad makes the Mariannas Trench (the lowest known place in the ocean, about 35,000 ft down) seem like the top of Mt. Everest (29,000+ ft) in comparison to them.

Scientists have said that “time” is endless as is the “universe”. SO IS THE DEMOCRATS ABIILITY TO BE ABSOLUTE LIARS, CON-ARTISTS, AND TRAITORS.

Never undestimate the ability of the Democrats to reach new lows in ethics (they have none to start with so they are plumbing new depths in depravity), in desperate lies, and in the destruction of America.

Nov. 6th can’t come fast enough for loyal Americans to put an end to this national disaster known as Obama and the Democrat Party.

Then the trials begin!

Leftists confuse me.

One minute, they want to eliminate 6.5 excess people off the planet, and the next, they get all hand-wringy about an individual life.

If it is any consolation, Ted Cruz beat David Dewhurst in a land slide, because people rejected his sleazy smear campaign.

Will someone tell this vile cretin that sometimes steel mills and other enterprises do not perform and have to be closed or they will just keep losing money for their owners. Yes, these closings have real consequences for the people who are put out of jobs. But does he really expect that investors lose money forever, once a business is open? Is that truly his view on how businesses operate? Does he really believe that a business should keep operating until all capital is exhausted? An ecomomy that engages in this practice will reach third world status inside of two generations.

Why, just think of all the miners who were NOT exposed to the dangers of underground mining in West Virginia, and thus were saved by Obama. Of course, the laid-off miners also lost THEIR health insurance, and their dependents may have died because of the delay in getting accurate diagnosis and treatment, that doesn’t matter. More important, shutting down the coal powered electric generation plants all across this nation, saved all those other people who would have had to breathe in the emissions from those now cold stacks, probably saved still more hundreds of people. Just because people expired from heat exhaustion because they were unable to pay the higher rates for electricity and had no air conditioning, those don’t count.

Geez, what a whiny detestable slimeball!

From CNN: According to Mr. Soptic, his wife received her primary insurance through her employer – a local thrift store called Savers – and retained it even after his layoff. Soptic's policy through GST Steel was her secondary coverage. In 2002, Mitt Romney formally left Bain. Sometime in 2002 or 2003, Mr. Soptic says his wife injured her rotator cuff and was forced to leave her job. As a result she lost her health insurance coverage and Mr. Soptic's new job as a janitor did not provide coverage for his spouse.

My wife's father cut lawns and did handywork as a one man operation for a living, her mother worked as a seamstress. They were never provided health insurance and even without having two nickles to rub together and living in a very small frame house that her father built, they made sure they had health insurance paid for out of their pockets.

I had rotator cuff surgery on a Wednesday late afternoon around 2004/2005. I was at therapy on Friday morning and back to work as a CAD operator the following Monday. I could have taken a longer medical leave on my own insurance and did not even try to use my wife's as a secondary. It was my right rotator and I am right handed. Mr. Soptic is a vile and detestable SOB and I would tell him to his face that their self induced dependency on unions and government is at the root of their lot in life. He gambled and lost. What a detestable SOB!.

I say let him run all the dirty ads he wants.

He will eventually hang himself.

Romney is a much better man for not acknowledging such bullsh!t.

CNN: “Wife of steelworker in new Obama Super PAC ad still had job and health insurance after he lost his”

“I wonder if Bill Burton and crew knew about this and greenlit the smear anyway or if they didn’t care enough to even find out. Why would they? The point of calling Romney a murderer is to keep him on the defensive;”

Umm...it took him 7 years to find a job? I've never had employer backed health insurance where you couldn't add a spouse. Why would Mr. Soptic allow his wife's memory to be used in such a nefarious fashion? Are they really this desperate?
