Romney: The Boy Scouts should admit homosexuals
Life Side News ^ | 8/7/2012 | Ben Johnson

WASHINGTON, D.C., August 7, 2012, (LifeSiteNews.com) – Mitt Romney stands by a 1994 statement that the Boy Scouts of America (BSA) should admit homosexuals to the organization, as members or adult supervisors, according to a campaign spokesperson.

During a 1994 debate with Ted Kennedy, Romney said, “I support the right of the Boy Scouts of America to decide what it wants to do on that issue. I feel that all people should be able to participate in the Boy Scouts regardless of their sexual orientation.”

Campaign spokeswoman Andrea Saul confirmed that Mitt Romney continues to hold that belief today.

However, she said Romney, who served as a member of its executive board, has not pressured the organization to change its stance and does not wish to see the Scouts forced to accept homosexuals. LifeSiteNews.com revealed that some chapters of the Boy Scouts do not consider the national organization’s prohibition of homosexuals serving as scouts or adult leaders binding policy.

The statement came just days after Romney refused to lend verbal support to Chick-fil-A in the face of a boycott.

“It is almost as if the governor is going out of his way to de-motivate the conservative base,” said Bryan Fischer, who hosts “Focal Point” on the American Family Radio Talk network. “In fact, if he deliberately set out to dispirit evangelicals and members of the pro-family network, he could hardly do any worse.”

Homosexual organizations seized upon the campaign statement. Zach Wahls, co-founder of Scouts for Equality, an organization dedicated to admitting homosexuals into the Scouts, said in a press release he is “proud to have Governor Romney’s support on this issue amid such a polarized political climate.”

The liberal website ThinkProgress claims the ban is “out-of-step” with “mainstream American values.”

Fischer said Romney’s position had more serious defects. “Social research has revealed that homosexuals sexually offend against minors at exaggerated rates.”

“In fact, according to research published in the Archives of Sexual Behavior, they are ten times more likely to molest children than heterosexual men,” he said. “Gov. Romney’s position, if adopted by the BSA, would put the sexual innocence of untold numbers of young boys at risk.”

The move carries political implications for a candidate struggling to attract his party’s base.

“If the Democratic Party is going to take a stand for homosexual marriage and the Republican Party wont stand up for traditional marriage, then they’re abdicating their role in the culture war,” said former Reagan adviser Pat Buchanan. He added in time, if left unchecked, “people are going to walk away from the party.”

I congratulate the Boy Scouts of America for putting the kids ahead of political correctness and the drumbeat of the news media, TV and Hollywood. Protect the boys first.

The Boy Scouts didn’t make this an issue; others have. Everything seems to be about sex and sex education these days. Our country has bigger challenges than the forced conformity of acceptance of members of the gay, lesbian, transgender and bisexual community.

Romney should be allowd to feel however he wants as long as he does not impose his beliefs on others.

What do you think he would do if he were President of the BSA?

It is astounding to me that Mr. Romney, a father of 5 boys, thinks it is perfectly fine that Boy Scout leaders, counselors, etc. are openly homosexual.

I stand with the Boy Scouts.

Romney should be allowed to feel however he wants as long as he does not impose his beliefs on others. It’s called freedom.

Bingo! Well stated. I've often said that capable people with less than conservative personal beliefs should not be automatically discounted if they are willing to put "feelings" aside and abide by the will of the people.

Homosexuality IS a form of perversion.

Not all homosexuals are pedophiles, but all male pedophiles who prey on young boys are.....homosexual. Just a fact.

I'm certainly no angel by any stretch and I try my best not to hold others sin above my own.

With that said, homosexuality is against God's natural law. By promoting this as an acceptable lifestyle and teaching youngins this is simply mocking our creator.

When the Lord has had enough, HE will not hold back his judgment and it will be terrible.

Just sayin!

I really dislike establishment candidates. I do not know what Romney is trying to prove with his nonsensical and immoral positions on homosexuality and abortion.

Maybe he does not understand the vices of homosexuality, the connection between pedophilia and homosexuality, the compromising of policies against sexual abuse of children. Maybe he has never gone camping with scouts. Maybe Romney is too insulated and too far away from the fundamental foundation of a moral society and culture.

I plan to vote for Romney for President for the same reason many voters of all persuasions - to replace the current corrupt administration with fresh new faces for temporary relief.

The Boy Scout Handbook would need to be expanded to include rules for boy-boy romancing.

The Boy Scouts should admit homosexuals? No, I don’t want a self-admitted homosexual to be anywhere near my children whether they are the adult troop leader or the young man in the next bunk. Since they are self admitted, they are welcome to form their own organization.

Excellent article, IJ. If anyone comes up with a transcript of Andrea Saul's statement, then please post it. This is even more extensive than what we saw yesterday. It is getting far more than just worrisome.

See sig line. If Romney somehow squeeks in, it won't all "get better." He's a liberal, and he'll act like a liberal. When his fiscal policies fail, the Democrats will point to that as a failure of "conservatism", just like they did with Bush, and sweep another openly liberal Dem into the White House on promises of hope and change.

And so The Stupid Party perpetuates the cyle of decline and ruin. Not that our largely godless country doesn't deserve it, of course.

Sorry, I can’t vote for either Moloch or Mammon (each of whom BTW is only too willing to liberally sprinkle incense at the altar of the other).

Homosexual loving? Is this heartfelt enough for you?

“For some voters it might be enough for me to simply match my opponent’s record in this area. But I believe we can and must do better. If we are to achieve the goals we share, we must make equality for gays and lesbians a mainstream concern. My opponent cannot do this. I can and will.”
(snip)
“One issue I want to clarify concerns President Clinton’s “don’t ask, don’t tell, don’t pursue” military policy. I believe that the Clinton compromise was a step in the right direction. I am also convinced that it is the first of a number of steps that will ultimately lead to gays and lesbians being able to serve openly and honestly in our nation’s military. That goal will only be reached when preventing discrimination against gays and lesbians is a mainstream concern, which is a goal we share.”

Well, I see the “dirty-tricks brigade” from TeamObama is out in force this morning.

Once again, they are throwing mud at the presumptive non-Obama candidate to discourage one-issue conservatives from voting against Obama.

Once again, they are encouraging moralistic preening within the ranks of Conservatives. From TeamObama’s perspective, a vote NOT cast for Romney is almost as good as a vote cast FOR Obama.

IMHO, most Conservatives are too intelligent to think that becoming a “useful idiot” for the Democrats is somehow “honorable”.

IMHO, there is no honor whatsoever in giving Obama four more years in an office which he shown he will use to destroy America.

He flat out tried to steal the Iowa Caucuses. I don't trust Mitt at all.

The only thing he really wants and believes in is that he should be POTUS. I can not believe that the GOP is going with a candidate that is the same as Obama on all major issues.

I don’t know how.

I keep using this analogy: There came a time in 19030’s Germany that the intelligent (and courageous) Jews got on a boat to England.

Ecclesiastes discusses this in those words of the Byrds song Turn Turn Turn.

And as Kenny Rogers said:

Know when to walk away and know when to run.

For me. It was time to prepare to walk away in late October of 2008. That is when I purchased my small farm in central KY. In August of 2011 I walked away from Seattle to that new home.

The day to run may come. The day to fight may come. But a wise man chooses his battles.

I said in 2000 AND in 2004 that the election of Bush simply put off the inevitable slide into dictatorship off by four years. The start of the collapse of the economy in 2008 sealed our fate. Since then it has not been a matter of “if” but only “when” this whole house of cards will collapse into WWIII. We are at the cusp.

I heard that markets were up today because it looks like there will be financial help supplied by the government (qe3) so they were “upbeat”. They were not “upbeat”. Rather, they see any such help as inflationary, which means stocks and commodities will increase in value RELATIVE to the increasingly worthless dollars. Eventually our economic death spiral will lead to hyperinflation just before the war.

With or without Obamacare we are screwed. With Romney or Obama we are screwed. It just changes the position.

But ultimately, I take heed to the words of a pastor I heard a couple decades ago: Where would he early church have been if they had put their faith in Rome?

My strength is in the Lord and this life is a mist. I will remain in him, living my life, eating and drinking and enjoying the fruits of my labor and sharing it and, most importantly, the good news of Christ with anyone who will listen. And then I die.

We are coming to a time when people will envy the dead.

BTW, IMO.

Why can’t Boy Scouts just continue their old policy of don’t ask, don’t tell. But the problem is that the gay community wants gay children to publicly proclaim that they are gay. I’ll bet there are a lot of kids that feel certain ways but don’t want to reveal the feelings publicly. So the kids are put on the spot.

What about the Boy Scout leaders? Should gay leaders be required to publicly state that they are gay? One thing’s for sure. My child isn’t going into a Scout troop that has gay leadership.

I think that he and his handlers figure that the Conservatives, Rinos, And fence sitters have no where else to go if they are voting against Obama.

Short term, they are right. Long term, the GOP will soon no longer be able to win elections. They are already in deep trouble. You can only abuse you base for so long till they split. The abortion issue was set up to keep the two parties in business, and has worked for 40 years. It won't once Mitt moves the party to the pro death camp.

Don’t count on most of talk radio, whether Hannity the coward, Rush who ignores most of it or others on talk radio,.

When it comes to conservative social issues like marriage, adoption, fighting the queer homostapo, abortion, gun rights then many in talk radio disappear, they like to talk debt, health care, debt, health care or the campaign of lying ADs by the left.

I’m so pissed off with our side who act cowardly or like Hannity said once on his show with his liberal pals there”I don’t care who marries” another time he hung up n a vet because he wanted to mention dn’t ask and refused many of us vets when we called his show and told the screener we want to say allowing homo’s to serve will only hurt the military.

Seems may on our side love their money, their power, their elitist cocktail parties and to hell with us, not just conservatives but
