Conservative Republican challengers Tuesday either unseated or were leading most of the GOP moderates in the Kansas Senate, improving their chances of reshaping the Legislature and ending a check on the political right’s agenda.
The most prominent victim of the conservative surge appeared to be Senate President Steve Morris, the unofficial leader of the state’s moderatae Republicans. With one precinct yet to be counted in his southwestern Kansas race against state Rep. Larry Powell of Garden City, Morris — who had served in the Senate for 20 years — trailed by 300 votes as of midnight.
Final, unofficial results showed moderate state Sens. Tim Owens of Overland Park, Bob Marshall of Fort Scott, Roger Reitz of Manhattan, Pete Brungardt of Salina, Dwayne Umbarger of Thayer and Jean Schodorf of Wichita all losing to challengers — most of which had the backing of the Kansas Chamber of Commerce and the anti-tax, small-government group Americans for Prosperity.
An exception to the conservative-wing surge came in Topeka where incumbent Sen. Vicki Schmidt narrowly held off the challenge of conservative state Rep. Joe Patton.

So I see according to The article, the moderates were “victims” of the conservatives. Huh, All this time I thought it was the constituents.
And now those same RINOs who jabber about party unity and backing the eventual nominee will work overtime to destroy destroy the conservatives.
Now that's just not right ~ they lost the primary, boot 'em to the curb. Replace all the delegates!
Someone should do a rules challenge right now to PROHIBIT folks who lost a primary from voting in the Convention.
The people are taking back their legislatures, one by one, state by state. And in doing so, they are creating future candidates for the national legislature i.e. the congress.
By changing the lawmakers, we will be soon changing the laws. Republican government (in the real sense of the term) is again on the rise, siezing the legislative powers from the aristocrats and oligarchs.
I give Sam Brownback a ton of credit for transforming the state - he beat moderate appointed Sen. Sheila Frahm (Bob Dole's replacement) to win his Senate seat and has led from the top as Governor.
In Topeka, the incumbent (a RINO-follower) won by 150 votes. She spent $284,000, at least, from the AFL-CIO and KNEA. Her campaign lit made her out to be a very hard-core conservative. Here’s her dilemma now: she had more than 150 Democrat cross-overs in her district. Now she’ll have to campaign in a general with a largely uninterested GOP base (as far as their opinion of her). I doubt that her “The first thing I’ll do is keep ObamaCare out of Kansas” mailer will help her much.
Congratulations on electing Tyson. She is exceptional! The more I read about the primary results, the happier I’m becoming. Just a few Sebileus go-fers left, and they are too spineless to come up with terrible ideas on their own.
One problem for my neighborhood is that part of our area is in the most exclusive city, Mission Hills, KS that has the highest per capita income in Johnson County, KS with a very high incidence of Obama voters (also some very liberal Jewish families.)
In some other small cities around me has seen an influx of dimocRATS and liberal RINOs moving into KS from the failing schools in Kansas City, MO school district where graduating seniors have received diplomas from unaccredited schools - and not for the first year!!!
Yet they move to KS and continue voting for the same policies and people that bankrupted their former schools.
Finally, they would have signs for those moderate/liberal candidates and in November, the Obama signs will appear in the same yards alongside the RINO sign or will switch and vote for their true choice, a dimocRAT.

Same thing happening in Texas. Lived up there in OP and Lenexa for many years and except for the State Line area and part of Mission Hills it always seemed pretty conservative. But that was a different era. Shawnee Mission had great schools and was awesome place to raise family. Still have some Jewish friends up there but only because we do not ever discuss politics.
Something that I have been thinking about for many years (and I am sure many FReepers have been too)..
WHY don’t WE make some DEM moderates to swing the govt. back to the conservative side (I won’t say Repub now.. I think that party is TOO far gone..)
With our grass roots, I think it can be done.. but someone has to start it, sadly, I am far and away.. but it’s just an idea (and I am 99.9% sure I’m not the only one that has been thinking it).
Forgot to mention a couple of things... It took MANY decades for the socialists to slip in to our party to throw it off.. and they did a good job of it.. look at what we have now :/
It will take a LONG time to return the favor and get this more balanced; BUT, if we keep saying, “We have to win this one, but we will get it right next time (again, and again, and again.. ad infinitum)... well, look where we are now :( )
It's eerie around Christmas, on one block, there is only one house that shows any sign of Christmas, though in much of the other blocks, houses and yards are lit up like it's a retail space - just no Christian values just phony religiosity.
Of course the area churches preach social justice and "doing good (peanut butter Sundays peak off the charts)."
Sounds good but unless The Disaster is removed the new legislatures will be taking over the deck of the Titanic after the iceberg.
It isn’t people moving and voting the same way that you are seeing but the impact of 100% leftwing media and educational establishments, all Left, all the Time.
Besides the same people don’t stay in the same places for decades in any case. Last time I looked the average stay in one address was about seven years.
In apartments, town-homes, and back in the days of the "starter homes" when one could move easily, while making money on the sale, simply does NOT exist right now.
No, the young couples sporting Obama stickers on their minivans and suvs are staying put and voting for libs.
My parents started taking me to the Country Club Plaza at Christmas and we would drive up and down Ward Parkway beginning in 1945 and then I took my children every year beginning when they were babies. I had not been back at Christmas between 1985 and a quick trip back in 2010. What a HUGE difference in 2010. Not the same area at all. Really missed Harzfeld’s wonderful animated windows as well as Cricket West. Was at Plaza III when the big flood over ran Brush Creek and came through the front window. Wonderful memories.
I often wondered why the Mission Hills people just didn’t move over to the east side of State Line!
