The activist political group behind the states push to drive welfare recipients to the polls this November has heavy ties to the disgraced community outreach organization ACORN including a Dorchester woman who served as its national president for 20 years.
Maude Hurd, who now chairs the board of directors of the group behind the latest effort, New England United for Justice, was president of the Association of Community Organizers for Reform Now, which was mired in scandal after members were convicted of voter fraud in 2005, 2006 and 2007.
Hurd insisted NEU4J, which like ACORN is meant to help low- to middle-income families access government services, has no political agenda other than ensuring the poor can vote.

Many of the people who don't bother to vote are on welfare - groups not exactly known for being 'civic minded'...
In the old days Democrats would take stacks of punch cards, put an ice pick on the candidate of choice - and hit it with a hammer. Chads would drop out.... The ‘stacks’ of cards were from the people who didn't bother to show up and cast their vote. The joke was the Democrats 'helped' them vote...
If the FBI wants to catch the cheating - they need to add a few fake names in important swing districts and see if those names are voted. If they are, someone is cheating...
Dem voter fraud was traditionally done in black communities - that might have changed with the advent of computer voting... Can Louis Freeh get in a phone call to someone?Can the FBI protect us from this stuff?
