My son is in the Army, I can guarentee you that he stands with “the people” as per the Constitution as per his oath. I’ll have to ask him what he thinks the majority of his brother soldiers would do, though.
I personally think the majority of the troops are with the people but that doesn’t mean you can’t gather the right ones together for a unit of blind followers or revenge seekers.
My cousin’s son is in the National Guard. He says some of them are *very* concerned they could be ordered to fire on their fellow citizens.........uh, key word being *some*.
Anyone that says something can’t happen simply because it hasn’t happened before is living in a fool’s paradise.
Just food for thought folks.

The problem with the military is the O-6 and above Command Structure. Not with the troops. These are all, ALL politicians. And yes, these days, that goes for my beloved Marine Corps, also. An Omar Bradley, A Lewis B. Puller, A Creighton Abrams....they no longer exist.
I have no love for officers. The only ones worth a cold bottle of piss are Warrants and Mustangs (prior Enlisted). Canoe U. grads are as worthless as Harvard grads.
If this type scenario ever came about, I know where I’d be.
Yes, take on the Tea Party when you have a war in the inner cities being ignored every day for decades.

I can answer that. They(we) would never fire upon U.S. Citizens. U.S.Army personnel are incalcated in the below:
Soldiers Creed
I am an American Soldier.
I am a warrior and a member of a team.
I serve the people of the United States, and live the Army Values.
I will always place the mission first.
I will never accept defeat.
I will never quit.
I will never leave a fallen comrade.
I am disciplined, physically and mentally tough, trained and proficient in my warrior tasks and drills.
I always maintain my arms, my equipment and myself.
I am an expert and I am a professional.
I stand ready to deploy, engage, and destroy, the enemies of the United States of America in close combat.
I am a guardian of freedom and the American way of life.
I am an American Soldier.
What does your son have to say about Article II and the natural born Citizen clause of our Constitution?
