Protesters boycott Chicago Chick-fil-A

A gay activist group “re-launched” a boycott of the embattled Chick-fil-A restaurant chain, with a protest at the only Chicago store Wednesday afternoon.

Protesters gathered at 4:30 p.m. at the 30 E. Chicago store. In a statement, the group Gay Liberation Network is seeking to boycott what they claim is millions of dollars that is used to promote discrimination against gays.

The restaurant became a lightning rod for controversy last month when the company’s CEO Dan Cathy said “we are inviting God's judgment on our nation when we shake our fist at Him and say 'We know better than you as to what constitutes marriage.'"

It looks like they are going to concentrate their very limited resources on this one Chicago outlet. I’m a long way from Chicago, but I would encourage any FReepers in the area to hit this place as often as you can stand it. If not now, when? If not here, where?

Thanks for linking. AFTAH claims they are one of the most aggressive and hypocritical gay advocacy organizations out there.

I think ChickFilA should close down the stores where they are not wanted. And take their JOBS with them.

And the business TAXES they pay as well.

ChickFilA has plenty of supporters in other States, Cities and Towns.

Let the deviants do their banana dance in the streets as ChickFilA leaves.

Their victory is hollow.

Not a bad idea. On the other hand, standing your ground is not bad, either. I think the more the GLBTs protest, the more they are turning people off and making CFA look noble and martyr-like.

Raised in a small town in upstate New York by his father, who designed missile parts, and his mother, an activist who secretly helped Vietnam draft dodgers escape to Canada, he was a misfit from the start.

His mother’s commitment to “take risks for what she believed in” left a mark, he says. By the age of 17, he’d written articles exposing corruption, articles that upset his teachers so much that they closed the high school newspaper.

It was in Chicago that his activism flourished. Enrolled as a journalism student at Northwestern University in 1978, he was sent to cover a protest at the gates of ComEd’s Zion nuclear power plant. Instead he joined in and was arrested and charged with trespassing and eventually was acquitted by a Lake County jury, which found that the protesters’ actions were necessary to prevent a greater harm to the public.

The experience was “exhilarating and scary,” he says.

Thayer took a hiatus from Northwestern when he came out of the closet — he now lives in Uptown with his partner — but became a campus leader upon his return, protesting against the school’s investments in apartheid South Africa.

By the 1990s he was a leading voice against police brutality and for the Gay Liberation Network, which he co-founded.

He’s since been arrested for everything from demanding gay rights in Moscow to attempting to stop President George W. Bush’s motorcade in the Loop. Convicted of misdemeanor resisting arrest in 1989 and again in 2005, he had three other minor cases thrown out, and was cleared of more serious charges of aggravated battery of a police officer in 2009 after video evidence undermined the case against him.

He’s taken on beloved conservative institutions — the Chicago Boy Scouts Council lost most of its funding from United Way in 2001 after Thayer led protests against the scouts’ policies on homosexuality — but also infuriated elements of the left, including other gays angered by his support of the deported Muslim cleric Rabbih Haddad.

But it was his leading role in the raucous anti-Iraq war march of March 20, 2003, that may offer the best clues into how he’ll react in the heat of the moment this May.

oh no, we don’t agree with a man liking fecal matter on his penis, the shock.

This si plain stupid, , they seriously need to be told that they are little babies, that we don;t want special rights based on how one has sex and that marriage etc is one woman and one man , that is between them

from the poeple I’m talking too they are.

This is plain stupid, even if they don;t beleive in God then surely nature tells them that two of the same sex cannot have a baby and reproduce or having fecal matter on them for a time , even for a few minutes brings all sorts of diseases.

” a boycott of the embattled Chick-fil-A restaurant chain”

Calling Chick-fil-A embattled is like calling Custer’s last stand a victory over the Indians.

they say it’s all about love, but really, come on , love.

I love my kids, my dog etc but feel no attraction sexually, these people still can love the same sex as pals, friends but to say thye shoudl marry, er no.

This is about them and their way of sex and quite honestly I find it repulsive, the facts are it is unhealthy and certainly unnatural/
Quite simply it’s sick and disgusting and one only has to see how they act on their parades.

Parades, flags, pride shirts, for what? How they have their sex, they seriously need mental help

I have not seen any comments from the so-called law professor at instapundit about the 2.5 million $ gift to the homers. But, then again, he makes bucks off of Amazon.

Well I guess we should start picketing Starbucks, Target and all Hollywood movies as they support gay marriage and give to causes that support the homos. Never spend your money at the movies—goes straight to Obama.
