When it was learned that Mitt paid only 15% tax, instead of being embarrassed , he should have said: “ I worked very hard to get my taxes down to 15% and I will work equally hard to get yours down to 15% too.” Unfortunately this is not something he believes. To him others should pay higher rates because we are not deserving.

I don’t think that is Romney’s belief on this. He, like all good career politicians, understands that the expanse of the US Treasury is the prize in an election. Controlling trillions and trillions of dollars is the goal.
Now, being able to spend it in myriad ways while couching that spending in some palatable way is accomplished by a labrynthian IRS code; smoke and mirrors for the average voter.
Additionally, simplifying or streamlining the tax code would also simplify and streamline the monetary flow from tax-payer to the “books” of the US Treasury.
In my estimation, it is all about keeping the tax-payer confused on how tax money is paid to the gummint and conversely confused on how the money is being spent. All the while, controlling trillions and trillions of dollars.
