Gay rights activists boycott (Orlando) Magic, Amway (for Support of Traditional Marriage)

The owners of the Orlando Magic are coming under fire for a 2009 donation they made on behalf of one of their executive's marriage beliefs.

The Douglas and Maria DeVos foundation, which is financially supported by Amway president Doug DeVos, donated $500,000 to NOM, the National Organization for Marriage.

The organization is among those leading the charge against same-sex marriage initiatives in several states.

Now, gay rights activists are calling for a ban of the Michigan-based Amway and all of its affiliates, including the Orlando Magic, which is also owned by the DeVos family.

Here's the official statement from Amway on the issue, courtesy of the Orlando Magic's media relations:

"As private citizens, the DeVos family supports causes and organizations that advocate for policies aligned to their personal beliefs. Both families believe one of the highest callings of any individual is to express their own personal beliefs as a participant in the democratic process.

In this instance, a private gift from the personal foundation of Amway's president -- The Doug and Maria DeVos Foundation -- was made to the National Organization for Marriage in 2009.

Amway, a global corporation with more than $10 billion in sales and operating in more than 80 countries and territories, supports policies that create favorable conditions for global businesses. Our employees and distributors come from all walks of life and represent an incredibly diverse set of backgrounds. The Amway opportunity is open to everyone."

A ban? Really? So the GLBT crowd is calling for government to prohibit the sale of products of a private company over its owners' beliefs? Talk about intolerant and hateful!

Former GOP presidential candidate and gay rights advocate Fred Karger was behind this.

This would be a big score because the brother in law of Dick DeVos is Erik Prince, founder of Blackwater.

Gay rights activists boycott (Orlando) Magic, Amway (for Support of Traditional Marriage)

So 1% boycotts your business? Sound like a win win for Magic and Amway.
Stand against the perverts and get business from 99% of the population........

From Wiki some of the other orgs the DeVos family supports.

Funding for other organizations

The foundation has funded organizations such as Michigan Family Forum, an affiliate of the national group Focus on the Family; the Institute for Marriage Policy; the National Day of Prayer Task Force; the Council for National Policy (of which DeVos is a member); and the Michigan-based Foundation for Traditional Values, among others.

Free-market economics

The foundation has also given money to organizations which promote free-market economics, such as the Grand Rapids-based Acton Institute; the Heritage Foundation; and the Hudson Institute. Also the DeVos family has contributed much to Northwood University in Midland, Michigan. This includes various donations of scholarships, buildings and uncountable financial donations.

So let me get this right!

We are now forbidden from supporting the VAST majority of people who engage in a man/woman marriage AND are forbidden from negative thoughts about 2 SSADs who can only engage in oral or anal sex (in the case of MM SSADs) and cannot reproduce.

That sounds fair on some other universe of depravity.

Anyone who supports 1 man 1 woman marriage is a hater.

Boy how on earth did we get here?

Amway people are kinda freaky. I found them to be very fakey. Wouldn’t buy their products either. Orlando Magic I will go see a game since my Mom now lives in Orlando so I will support them, Chick-Fil-A and Dunkin Donuts. Come on...more establishments come out for traditional marriage. I need to eat more than CFA and DD.

NOM is really having an effect that is why the gaystapo are targeting their donors.

If you haven’t checked out their site you should.

The faggies want special rights & recognition just because of their pestiferous sexual habit. It defines their entire being.

Don’t know about Amway salespeople but I remember the days of the office Tupperware rep & her `parties’. Yuk.
