Oregon businessman allegedly slapped over anti-Obama window sign
examiner.com ^ | 8/8/12 | KEVIN KERWIN

Posted on 08/10/2012 9:01:42 AM PDT by Clint N. Suhks

Kevin "The Geek" Kerwin, a business man who owns a computer shop in Lake Oswego, Oregon, said he was slapped by a woman over an anti-Obama sign in his window, Victoria Taft wrote Tuesday.

According to Taft, "Kerwin came to Oregon to get a fresh start after being wiped out by Hurricane Katrina."

She added that he started his business with the money he had in his pocket.

After President Obama said business owners did not get where they are on their own, Kerwin posted a sign in his window saying that he built his own business and Obama had nothing to do with it.

On Monday, Taft wrote, Kerwin was visited by an elderly woman from Dunthorpe, who reportedly berated him for his sign.

When he refused to remove it, she allegedly slapped him.

According to Taft, Kerwin "threatened to call the cops but she left and then shuffled across the street and lost herself in the stores and parking lot."

"He didn't get a picture or see her vehicle and doesn't know her name so did not report her to police," she wrote.

Kerwin emailed Taft to tell her of the incident.

"A woman from Dunthorpe came in my shop today and got upset and hit me. Things are getting a little tense around here," he reportedly wrote.

While appearing as a guest on Taft's radio program, Kerwin said he reminded the woman about the language Bill Maher used against Sarah Palin.

"I'm tired of your party telling us what to do," he recalled saying. Later, he said that liberals have threatened to put him out of business over the sign, but he promised to fight back.

I suspect he will get more business now...

Don’t get me wrong etc...

HE would definitely get MY business and, as a matter of fact, if he had a PRO BO sign, I would go to the next town or call someone in before I spent a dime in his establishment.

So in the BO mode I would ‘thank’ him for showing me where some of his profits might end up, so I could pass.

Absolutely right. A concrete example of the abstract principle at the heart of their ethics. Force and coercion. I’ll tell you what though. I believe in dealing with force by force and she deserved to be slapped back twice as hard, woman or no.

That said, I don’t feel that it is good for ANY business to pick a side when it comes to politics or religion etc since you stand the chance of alienating about half of your business.

While I agree with you in principle about alienating half your business, I agree with "Kevin the geek" on this one. Not only has he re-established himself after Katrina, I would be willing to bet that he has never (in either location) reached out for assistance from Uncles Dubya or Barry in doing so.

Had his sign said "Thank you, Lord Obama, for giving me the government backing to become rich", the crickets from the press on the issue would be deafening.

“...the nut bars will be in the streets.”

Targets of opportunity. Their misfortune, if rioting and looting.

Had his sign said “Thank you, Lord Obama, for giving me the government backing to become rich”,

Persactly.

MY point is alienating half the customers. (see my #25)

The gentleman can put up any sign he is willing to bear the weight of, legally or idiotically.

If he would have the sign cited above, I would exercise MY right to NOT patronize him. Period.

I wouldn’t go in and assault him physically, mentally or in any manner. If he were to be standing there I may tell him “No way I am shopping here”.

I was just in a ‘new to me’ dry cleaner and dropped a couple of things off. There was a calendar on the wall - back behind the counter - with Moochelle’s picture. I ahemmed and rolled my eyes and when I caught his attention (Chinese gentleman) I said get to see enough of them without having it here. He looked at it and shrugged, took a closer look and said “You right”...
I am going to say that was random as he started talking to another counter person and I think the calendar came down.
I will know Mon when I pick my stuff up and if it is still there, that will be the end of my business with the store.

Again, his choice for picture or advertisement, my choice to spend my money in his establishment or not.
