Romney's Strategy Isn't Working (It's the Conservatism, Stupid!)
Commentary ^ | 8/10/2012 | John Podhoretz

....The polls suggesting he’s seven or nine points behind are surely wrong, but given that there is only one national poll that shows him ahead, we have to presume Romney is behind. He should presume he’s behind. And given that there’s no good reason whatever for Obama to be leading, one can only presume that Romney’s strategy in July and now in August is not working.

Which is why the “we only talk about the economy” line, while superficially clever, was and is so foolish—stupid, even. Of course Romney wants to focus on that one issue. It’s the one that hurts Obama the most, and the one on which he seems to score the best. He and his team have an idea about the campaign. They need to win independents to win. Independents are less ideological. So don’t press the ideological buttons. Keep it simple....

Romney and his people prefer this strategy because it’s what is most comfortable to them. He is not, at root, an ideological person. Neither, at root, are they. And the data suggest this is not a time for a sharply ideological campaign. The data suggest Romney needs to run as Mr. Fix-It. That is how Romney prefers to view himself. So the two match perfectly.

Alas for him, that’s not how it works. If conservative ideology is a problem with some independents, it also has the virtue of providing those who use it to discuss the nation’s problems with a pulse. Romney has just learned over the past few weeks that he cannot limit the discussion to the topics he wishes to talk about, especially when his rival is spending $100 million trying to destroy him in the swing states and when the media are largely serving his [0bama's] purposes....

My apologies. I'll fix it:

You willing to vote for men who look the other way when men take little boys into the showers forest?

1. Be careful of what you accuse others of doing.

2. Your lame attempt at humor is lacking.

3. Your Sarcastic non-Apology is not accepted.

4. Thanks for playing.

I think it is important to keep in mind that some people who claim to be standing on principal don’t realize that the left will eat their lunch and they will be left hungry at the end of the day. Way to many demand purity as they see it and will settle for nothing less and less is what they will get. I would ask that they put aside their petty complaints and look to the greater good but I realize that would be silly, they can’t. So let their comments go by the way and let the rest get on with what is important, electing Romney/Ryan.

Ignore the sad, anonymous Internet Tuff Gais; ineffectual online non-entities whose ambitions may be Pol Pot, but whose actual magnitude and reach are more along the lines of Baby Bop. ;)

Very impressive as long as I accept your premise of Romney as Evil. I do not. I know Evil, and it is lurking in the White House and DNC Headquarters as we speak.

While I disagree with Romney's positions on a myriad of issues, just as I did with Bush 43 BTW, I also understand that he is for all intents and purposes the Republican Nominee. The Primary Voters have spoken, so we have only two choices before us in November.

Your original Post that started all this silly back and forth was simply wishful thinking and not factually based. When I called you on it using a humorous anecdote told to me by a Retired Navy Chief and former Employee of mine, I am accused by you of endorsing Pedophilia.

First you apply your delusion that Romney is advocating Child Rape, then you accuse me of knowingly Voting for people who have first hand knowledge of Child Rape being committed.

Your comments toward me are unacceptable. I expect you to acknowledge your boorish behavior and apologize. If you can not see fit to do so I will assume your lack of character matches those you accuse of harboring Evil intent.

I’m done trying to reason with these freaks. Anyone telling me that god is telling them to take actions that result in an Obama second term is delusional beyond the point of out being nice any more.

They are not doing gods work. hey are doing. The work of Thulsa Doom Obama.

I’m not interested in your emotional upsets regarding this issue. That’s how you should feel when you’re facilitating such a bad thing.

It is evil to turn little boys over to homosexuals. To elect a man happy to do so as the leader of this country is a real big mistake.

You have to live with that.

Except, that’s how a Pol Pot comes to be.

The Convention hasn’t happened yet - votes can be changed.

No, honestly they can't. Technically, it may be possible, but there is no way the GOP could explain it to the scores of citizens who voted for Romney in the Republican primary. Like it or not, he got the votes and the delegates that come with those votes must stay with Romney, or we find ourselves in a crisis where voters rightly realize that their input does not matter. Why would anyone ever bother voting again?
