Six Million Abortions in England Since Abortion Legalized
Life News ^ | August 10, 2012 | Steven Ertelt

A new analysis from the Christian Institute in England shows that more than six million abortions have been done on unborn babies in the United Kingdom since abortion was legalized in 1967.

“According to the figures 6.4 million abortions were performed on residents of England and Wales between 1968 and 2011,” the pro-life group said in a new article based on its research.

While some abortion advocates claim abortions are needed to protect women’s lives and health, the analysis of the numbers shows that’s not the case.

“Less than 150 of the six million plus abortions carried out since abortion became legal were performed to save the life of the mother, government figures show,” the Christian Institute said. “Of these [six million] just 143 (0.006 per cent) were performed to save the life of the mother or to prevent serious permanent injury to the physical or mental health of the mother. A further 23,778 (0.37%) abortions were performed because the continuance of pregnancy would involve the risk to the life of the woman, greater than if the pregnancy were terminated.”

Anthony Ozimic, of the pro-life group SPUC, says the numbers are even higher if the full UK is considered:

“If the number of abortions in the other parts of the UK (Scotland and Northern Ireland) are taken into account, then the figure is over 7.5 million abortions,” he noted.

He also clarifies that abortion is still technically, not legal, even though abortion is fully available in practice.

An interesting paragraph:

Lord Alton was quoted as commenting on the figures on his blog: “When the case for allowing legal abortion was first placed before Parliament it was argued that the law needed to be changed to deal with extremely serious situations. More than 6 million abortions later the figures reveal that in 99.5% of cases where an unborn child’s life is ended there is no risk to the health of the mother. Other figures reveal that 3 teenage girls have had 24 abortions between them and that some women have had more than 8 legal abortions.”

Abortion truly is a travesty. There are six million innocent children dead, and over 99% of those kids were killed for convenience purposes.

Six million dead babies ... six million dead people financed by a government. Six million potential productive citizens dead and gone. Six million mothers with dead babies on their conscience. Six million unwarranted deaths.

It is an evil practice, mostly performed for convenience.

I have known two women who have had abortions; one because she “didn’t want any more children,”, and another, my sister, who had always wanted a baby...but when she was young, her boyfriend—now her husband!—pressured her to “get rid of it”.

I think there are other women in my sister’s shoes who have abortions because their men don’t want to commit at that time.

My husband knows how I feel on this issue. The births of our two children were the happiest days of our lives.

I do not understand how people can compartamentalize like this. There is a living being inside you; if you don’t want to take care of the baby, or can’t, there are so many who are desperate to adopt.

And many WWII British were upset over 6 million Jews that perished in Germany, yet ... 6 million British babies have perished for no other reason then convenience.

That is same as the holocaust slaughter of Jews by the Nazis. And yet, abortion is a “right” and the abortionists and the “mothers” are not serving sentences for murder/genocide.

If there is god, they will pay in the afterlife. But, in this life, they are not paying for their crimes against humanity. Abortion is a right. A murdered baby is just a piece of tissue, discarded because of inconvenience and “privacy” issues.

I have never understood why a woman doesn’t have a hysterectomy if she doesn’t want to conceive. If a guy doesn’t want to support and be a father to children he should go ahead and get a vasectomy.

Children are so precious and such a wonderful miracle. I would hate to think that I was so selfish, cold, heartless and devoid of emotion that I would ever terminate a pregnancy. I am sure that the situation with your sister caused you a tremendous amount of heartache. Perhaps it was too bad that the “it” she chose not to get rid of was the boyfriend.

Also almost 2 following generations -the potential children and even grandchildren of those murdered. The number would be about 10 million people who have never had the chance to exist. Those who have never been would have made a different society from the one now in England. I doubt that England would have allowed the influx of Muslims if they had had the extra 10 million to look after and feed etc. Reaping what you sow seems to well apply to nations as well as individuals!

This sort of thing always makes me think of the passage in Genesis where God says to Cain that his brother’s blood was crying out from the ground. And that was only one person! What about the sound of those 60 million?

In South Africa we have had legal abortion for only about 15 years, but apparently the number of abortions is already well over 1 million, and those are just the recorded ones - there are still many so-called back-street abortions.

Our national anthem, translated into English, is God Bless Africa. I ask myself why anyone would expect God to bless a blood-soaked nation.
