Actually Obama easily won the Catholic vote, Bishop Romney's religion is important to Evangelical Christians, not to Catholics in general, although the Catholic church calls Mormonism a non-Christian, Polytheistic religion, created by Joseph Smith.
Both religions have Popes.
The Catholics, all in all, are not very conservative. Even their Bishops tend to be progressives and agitate for leftist projects. That’s why even Santorum was pro-Union and partial for moderation, at least before this last election cycle. The number of conservative Catholics is very low, and Catholics aren’t that big of a majority in the country either, especially when you consider that many are just Catholics in name only and don’t participate in their own Church services.
