10 THOUGHTS ON ROMNEY’S RYAN PICK
Powerline ^ | August 12,2012 | Scott Johnson

Posted on 08/12/2012 7:16:30 AM PDT by Hojczyk

1. The Republicans have a deep bench from which Romney picked:

2. Paul Rahe suggests that the pick represents Romney’s declaration of war, and Professor Rahe is always worth reading. I think Romney has concluded he needs to go big and bold to win.

3. Paul Ryan is a remarkable man. He has made himself a national figure through his mastery of the federal budget. Who’d a thunk it?

4. Like the others on my putative short list, Ryan radiates decency

5. It would be nice to think that the Obama campaign played the murder card a little early, with its dip into the Soptic tank.

6. The Democrats offer no solution to the fiscal crisis we confront; they offer denial and evasion.

7. We have longed for a leader who would articulate our case — the case for the restoration of limited government — and stand by it. Ryan will help Romney on this score.

8. Quotable quote from Ryan’s remarks yesterday: “But America is more than just a place…it’s an idea. It’s the only country founded on an idea. Our rights come from nature and God, not government.

9. Looking at the pick in traditional terms, Ryan puts Wisconsin in play. But what about Ohio and Florida? Romney is playing to win not just by making himself an acceptable alternative to a failed incumbent, but by making a positive case through the force of ideas.

10. Revisiting point 5, the Obama campaign probably hit a new low last week in the matter of Mrs. Soptic. It’s hard to imagine the Obama campaign descending lower, but they will now have the use of Paul Ryan to show us how it’s done.

Obama will try a late October 'surprise' that will also backfire. He will resign before his term is up.

No No No! Hear me out before you get upset. I want Obama to finish his term, and get voted out by a landslide that makes the Carter - Reagan landslide look like a 'close race'. I want Obama to watch election night coverage and see the American people thoroughly reject him and his administration. I want Obama to live a long life, with each day being reminded what a failure he was. I want his daughters to grow up and read in their history books what a failure their father was, so they can remind him often. I want Obama to go to his grave knowing that he destroyed the most powerful economic system in the world, that green energy is not the only answer, that bigger government is not the answer. Yes, this is why I want Obama to finish his one and only term.

I think the Ryan choice is parallel to a young Rick Santorum. While Ryan has a few pluses Santorum doesn’t, He is the same sort of straight-laced Catholicism that fueled Santorum’s run.

The Democrat way to avoid a head-to-head debate is to pick the moderator, pick the questions, pick the audience, and own the debating rules.

I honestly think he will resign after he loses the election, leaving Biden to serve the last months of his lame duck term.

Sure they do. Their solution to everything is soak the rich.

The death of a thousand (metaphorical) cuts... I like it!
