With either Obama or Romney as president, it will be impossible for conservatives to get a super majority. In both cases, the RINOs and democrats will band together to stop conservatives.

This is why I am amazed by people who think conservatives will be able to hold Romney’s feet to the fire. We can’t make him do anything now, and it is at this point that we have the most power. He needs voters. If he is not willing to go our way now, having the backing of RINOs and democrats won’t make him any more reasonable.

We only get a super majority of republicans if the RINOs can be made to toe the line. As long as they can continue reaching across the aisle to help their buddies — the dems, that will never happen.

Just look at the house.

We do not have a majority of conservative reps there. However a core of dedicated conservatives have forced boner to be more conservative than he would be normally.

To pass a federal marriage amendment you don’t need the president. That would trump this fetish worship nonsense.

Your theory works okay when you have a democratic president. To some extent, the republicans work together against a common enemy. When the republican president decides he does not want a conservative idea to be passed, the core of dedicated people becomes the 300 fighting liberal Xerxes and his millions. A liberal republican gives RINOs cover.

It is already happening. Remember the House was going to de-fund Obamacare. Never happened. Funny how as soon as you get Romney as the frontrunner, all those plans go flying out the window and Boehner’s spine disappears unless it involves disciplining the conservatives.

With either one of these two running for president it will be difficult for all conservatives. We will need to get as many elected as we can and do all we can to hold their feet to the fire. The more conservatives we elect, the greater the chance even the RINOs in office will fear for their seats and even if things don’t go our way this time, next time those RINOs will be gone.

Just marginally relevant to the Monty Python thing, but I but after reading your reply I recalled a news story from the Clinton era about a contingent of gay dutch troops called the “Dutch Gay Army” or something like that. They participated in the UN police action in Yugoslavia.

I just googled “Dutch Gay Army”, and found several 2010 news headlines about the Dutch govt bitterly demanding an apology from an American General Sheehan over his testimony in a senate hearing concerning alleged poor performance of Dutch gay troops in Bosnia during the 1990’s.

It wasn’t just the Dutch “Gay” troops, the entire Dutch Army is soup-sandwich.

Unfortunately, this is very true.

The Dutch military, which despite almost totally indefensible topography managed to delay Hitler's assault by nearly a week helping the French and British get at least somewhat organized, has long since become virtually useless. A good case could be made that the last time the Dutch military did anything worthy of the name of an army was the unsuccessful Indonesia campaign to prevent colonial independence following World War II.

That was not always true of the Netherlands. This is a country which defied almost unimaginable odds to declare and defend its independence from Spain, then the most powerful nation in Europe, and over the next several hundred years, despite its small size, was able to create a navy capable of acquiring and maintaining major colonies. At the same time, it managed to maintain an army capable of deterring aggression from far larger neighbors who might have had good reason to try to acquire its wealthy mercantile cities and ports.

Not coincidentally, the Netherlands was also known up until the end of World War II as the "Bible Belt" of Europe. It was a nation that managed to retain a strong Christian character in direct defiance of trends throughout most of the rest of Europe. Abraham Kuyper, a Dutch minister and politician who founded a daily newspaper, a weekly church newspaper, a Christian university, and what became the nation's second-largest Protestant denomination, eventually became prime minister of the Netherlands as head of a pre-existing Christian political party.

All that is now long gone. Internationalism and Eurocentrism have done their damage. You can't have a strong military without a strong sense of nationhood and a belief there's something about your nation worth defending.

Let's not forget that lesson.
