The analogy that I’ve heard best describe it is that of a black hole. We’ve passed the even horizon and can’t get out, but we have yet to be sucked down its throat.
I don’t think that we’ve passed the event horizon. But in practical terms, sadly, I believe that The Country lacks the will to do what’s required in order to pull out.
