Conservative Republican Rick Santorum will campaign for his former presidential rival Mitt Romney in the key swing state of Ohio this week, officials with the Romney campaign said on Monday.

Conservative Republican Rick Santorum will campaign for his former presidential rival Mitt Romney in the key swing state of Ohio this week, officials with the Romney campaign said on Monday.

Santorum, an ex-U.S. senator from Pennsylvania, emerged as Romney's main challenger during their party's state-by-state nominating contest earlier this year, portraying the former Massachusetts governor as not being a true conservative.

He has only campaigned once on behalf of Romney since bowing out of the race and endorsing the White House hopeful.

Romney officials, speaking to Reuters on condition of anonymity, said Santorum would make the appearance in Ohio on Wednesday.

Conservatives have rallied to Romney's cause after he announced on Saturday that he had chosen Wisconsin congressman Paul Ryan, a darling of conservative Republicans, to be his vice presidential running mate for the Nov. 6 election.

Santorum, who praised Romney's choice of Ryan, says he plans to appear more frequently on Romney's behalf and hopes to boost enthusiasm for the Republican ticket among voters in northern industrial states like Ohio, Pennsylvania and Indiana who were attracted to Santorum's social conservatism and focus on revitalizing the manufacturing sector.

"We're trying to do our best through speeches and communicating with our folks, as you heard today, to try to get them excited," Santorum told Reuters in an interview in Waukee, Iowa on Saturday.

Santorum has been invited to speak at the Republican National Convention later this month in Tampa, Florida. His wife Karen also has joined a coalition of women supporting Romney.

During the Republican presidential nomination campaign, Santorum labeled Romney the single worst Republican to go up against President Barack Obama on account of the similarities between Obama's 2010 health reform and Romney's 2006 health insurance restructuring.

When asked by Reuters on Saturday whether he would have a hard time campaigning for Romney, Santorum said, "Yeah, except I come down to the bottom line, which is Barack Obama is not going to repeal this (2010) health plan."

"While Governor Romney and I have differences, they pale in comparison to the differences, what Barack Obama wants to do and what (Romney) has said he wants to do. No, it's not hard for me."

Of course. He endorsed Arlen Specter in the 90s for President, not just for congress, and endorsed Romney and called him a conservative in 2008. Politics is just politics. Doesn’t mean anything. Of course he pimps himself out to Romney now that he has no self-interest in becoming President this year. Maybe in 2016 we can start all over again with this stupid game.

Rick Santorum 2016! COURAGE! PRINCIPLED CONSERVATISM!

Wow, some on this board just want to “eat their own”. There is no way you can describe Rick as a RINO. You can’t take the “politics” out of politics, but some would rather just go down in flames. Silly.

As the runner up, Santorum has the inside track for the 2016 nomination under the GOP turn system only if Romney looses. But if Romney wins, then it would be Paul Ryan’s turn.

So the Republican in Name Only goes on the record to campaign for his Rival in Name Only.

How quaint.

DUmmielike behavior. I like Rick Santorum just fine but that doesn’t mean I will be voting for Romney or think any less of him or Sarah Palin. Hell Sarah Palin has endorsed several people I wouldn’t vote for. Going by the standards some want to impose, that means I should hate her and want her destroyed.

I don’t know where FReepers got this bizarre unrealistic and childish attitude. I think folks really need to grow the hell up.

So far all the candidates have endorsed Mitt Romney aside from Ron Paul. Guess that makes Paul the heroic one. LOL

People know that Santorum is a Romney man from 2008, but few know that both he and Mitt Romney were anti-Reagan, and that both switched from pro-abortion, to pro-life, while preparing to run for a political office.

Many of us know that Santorum is a Romney like man, when you look at his political past, it is shocking, and getting booted out of your Senate seat by 17 points is very powerful evidence of that as well.

That has no relation to RINO behavior or voting. Sorry, dude. Being mislead by the MSM that early in the game is understandable. That’s when Trayvon was still “a young child about 80 lbs getting skittles”.

“That has no relation to RINO behavior or voting.”

Oh, my mistake. I had thought that the constitution was important, that a freaking lawyer might understand it’s protections for innocent citizens and that the man who wanted to win the most powerful job in the world just— might get his facts straight before he opened his big mouth.

Saintorum is many things, but he damn sure isn’t a conservative. The man is a two-faced loon.
