Michele Obama Scolds Olympics Hero Gabby Douglas for Eating an Egg McMuffin
NewsBusters ^ | 8/14/12 | Noel Sheppard

JAY LENO, HOST: You trained your whole life, you win. How did you celebrate? What did you do?

GABBY DOUGLAS: We didn't have time to celebrate. It was team finals and had to turn the page all-around finals and event finals after that. But, after the competition, I splurged on an Egg McMuffin at McDonald’s.

LENO: Egg McMuffin.

[Laughter]

MICHELLE OBAMA: Yeah, Gabby, we don't, don't encourage him. [Laughter] I'm sure it was on…

DOUGLAS: A salad.

OBAMA: a whole wheat McMuffin.

LENO: It was on a whole wheat bun.

OBAMA: Yeah.

LENO: So an Egg McMuffin. Very good.

[Light laughter]

OBAMA: You're setting me back, Gabby.

DOUGLAS: Sorry.

OBAMA: It's so hard.

That’s because Gabby is adorable and full of laughter.

Cynicism about Mrs. Obama and her healthy eating campaign while she eats whatever she wants must be common among the press as well as the public for this story to have this headline.

I just watched clips from Gabby’s appearance with Leno, and Gabby is wonderful. I hope she is steered away from these people with causes and that she maintains her joy for life.

She would do better to pick up Princess Di left off battling land mines. maybe she can put her own training ground next to her garden and run thru it to show how perfect she is.

Misleading headline - it was a silly joke and actually came across very funny. The entire segment was good.

Sorry, but I am going to have to disagree. The last four years have been miserable for most Americans. This women is a control freak and she parades around the world eating Wagu beef, stuffing her face with lobster, and scarfing down ice cream while she tells all of us that we have to cut back on what we're eating.

Seriously, screw these people, even if Michelle's comments were in the context of a "joke," I really don't care I'm tired of the soft tyranny that this administration practices on us. It doesn't make a difference to me that she tells people "light heatedly" to not eat Egg McMuffins or have a piece of pie on Thanksgiving. Libs like Moochelle want control, they won't rest until their boot is forever on our necks.

What's notable here is that this one-trick-horse First Food Nazi seems to have absolutely zero depth as a First Lady...unlike other First Ladies. (I don't think she's very bright.)

Every freaking word out of this woman's mouth is about freaking FOOD. What people are sick of is not the "light-hearted or not light-hearted," it's the incessant tip-of-her-tongue FOOD FOOD FOOD.

Mooselle: READ SOME BOOKS or FIND SOME OTHER HOBBIES OR INTERESTS of/for which to converse/interact with others.

Please just PARK IT for a minute with the FOOD . For crying out loud she's creating more eating-disordered kids than those that would otherwise be well-adjusted and proportionally-informed regarding nutrition and food.

I see the Obama girls as developing major "food issues" as adults due to a mother that obviously has only ONE (obsessive and control-of-others) interest.

It's like Mooselle is a big one-chip robot with a whistle and a portable doctor's scale.

I thought that north of the border Canadian Bacon was referred to as “back bacon”? At least that’s what those two great arbiters of Canadian culture, Bob and Doug MacKenzie have taught me.

I agree with you about Gabby.

Where I live is considered part of the Virginia Beach TV market, and since she is a “hometown girl” we have been seeing lots of her on the evening news. Maybe it is that familiarity with her, I didn’t think anything of the segment last night other than some good natured fun.

Well, if you think about McDonald’s, Ray Kroc did not build that chain into one of the biggest companies of any kind in the world. His franchiseees did not build their own businesses under the umbrella of the McDonald’s corporation.

Remember, people had to drive their cars on publicly funded roads to get to McDonald’s. Also, their employees went to public school. McDonald’s stores are connected to public water and sewer systems. They are connected to the electric grid which has public oversight, if not government ownership. The delivery trucks which deliver supplies drive on government roads, and the trucks have EPA mandated pollution controls and required government inspections. And the truck drivers went to public school.

For so many reasons such as these, we can conclude that Ray Kroc and the Mc Donald’s franchisees did not build up their businesses to get that corporation to where it is today.

(sarcasm)

There was no “scolding” in it - thus my comment the headline was misleading.

I don’t disagree with your position here, and I have been an anti-nanny stater for as long as I’ve been here - in fact that work of mine is what led me here back in ‘99 - but even I’m capable of telling the difference between “scolding” and teasing, even coming from an enemy o my personal cause.

True. We have to remember that agricultural inspectors go out to farms and set standards for how our food is produced.

Bottom line is that Obama and liberals think that government either controls, or should control, everything.

This election could be a sharp clear choice between two different world views, in addition to being between opposing candidates running for office.

Run Gabby Run! Don’t let Michelle use you for political purposes.......McDonald’s EggMcMuffin is almost as American as Apple Pie. Shane on the First Lady for using you to spot light her political point of view.....Serving Kobe Beef, 100+ on the fat scale and bloody expensive is used at White House gatherings. Gabby should not let herself be singled out because of her race either.

Maybe she should mind her own damn business and learn to sit like a lady instead of lecturing everyone else.

Political tags - such as royalist, communist, democrat, populist, fascist, liberal, conservative, and so forth - are never basic criteria. The human race divides politically into those who want people to be controlled and those who have no such desire. Robert A. Heinlein “If you are part of a society that votes, then do so. There may be no candidates and no measures you want to vote for ... but there are certain to be ones you want to vote against. In case of doubt, vote against. By this rule you will rarely go wrong.” ― Robert A. Heinlein, Time Enough for Love
