I’d run pretty fast too if I had to escape from a cheetah or a jaguar chasing me in the jungle...

Jaguars are unknown in Africa and live in the rainforests of Central and South America.

Cheetahs do not live in West African jungles but in southeastern African grasslands - the region where human distance runners, not sprinters, come from.

The fastest human in recorded history cannot run at a rate of 30mph for more than a few seconds. A cheetah can run 60mph for upwards of 20 seconds.

No human being ever escaped a cheetah by running.

Nope, but humans can run any other mammal, including a cheetah, into heat exhaustion.

It's one of the few physical feats at which we excel!

A reminder, all the serious mammalian predators can outrun us BUT WE ARE SMART. Few months back some new rock carvings were found in the Kola Peninsula in Russia/Finland.

The big cheese drawing was how to kill a bear. You get out ahead of him going up hill on skis, then you speed past him going down hill on skis ~ you get to the bottom, get out your spear, and hold on tight. The bear will come running down hill after you at 30 MPH and he'll jump on that spear!

No way a guy with a spear can just walk up and plunge it into a bear. But if the bear will jump on a spear, that makes it a different sort of task.
